Okay, you could say I'm getting a weeee bit obsessed with building a replica of my '98 Red RT/10...

But, having worked in a body shop back in the day when I was young, I can't accept the hood paint being even a shade or two off.

So, I totally dismantled my UnMcViper (carefully) and put all the parts in a box. I will tape off the black in the crossbar, as I couldn't get it off without breaking it...but, everything else is off including all the lenses!

Here is the wetsanded redone '97 GTS hood that was originally from a B&W with white stripes. It still needs some wet sanding, especially in the front, but other than that it is coming out well:

It will end up being a very clean, "logo-less" RT, but as close to a complete '98 Viper Red RT/10 as I can get.

Here's hoping (after all this work).:headbang:

You give me too much credit. I used auto after-market touch-up spray using a paint chip and hoping. It took two different sprays to come close to the color of my RT. When I worked at the body shop, my mentor (General Motors Trained) showed me how to use a spray can to get a good finish. Obviously, this included wet sanding and polishing to finish, but it used to come out quite good....so I'm using the same technique he taught me.

I'll take a picture of the spray can if you're still interested. It sprays smoothly and pretty evenly.

Thanks.

The paint looks a little flat. You should have taken to Saleen and had them paint it.

What is the correct technique for using a rattle can?

I have had good results by gently heating the can up with either hot water or careful application of heat from a heat gun. This helps to boost pressure and thin the paint for better atomization.

Agreed. I made sure I kept it in a warm room to keep around room temp, as it started getting cold up here...cold aerosol cans do not spray well.

I always turn the can upside down after using and spray to keep nozzel (sp?) clean.

Will start wet sanding body tomorrow. Will post pics as I move through process.

Yes, paint was a little dull, need to spray another coat and see.

Thanks.

Hey Ted.....that's an interesting suggestion, didn't think of that. :2tu:

This was the only coat that I did outside (my wife was complaining of the smell.:nono: The coats I put on in my garage were actually as shiny as the original paint on the body. But, that said, I think that is a good suggestion.

Whoever thought I would be spending this much time on a 1:24 scale trying to make it look like a stock 98 RT? Yup, my obsessive nature is coming out!:crazy2:

Later.

Painting soon....by the way, if you look closely, you can see the difference in shade between the hood and body...reason why I took the car apart to paint all.
