A SPRINGTIME REMINDER...as I am starting to plan my Spring oil changes, thought that I'd remind others of the benefits of routine oil analysis. I take great comfort in receiving a full report on the Vipers' state-of-engine-health each time that I change oil. There are all kinds of things to watch...and, the folks at Blackstone send out a super report. They are well known to some of you, very well respected in their field, and do work for "the Big Boys" in Detroit. They have tested our Vipers' oil samples for 4 years (....and, hopefully many more to come).

Today I received a link to their latest newsletter, and thought that I would share same (by permission) with you. This particular edition is of great interest to Viper owners...especially to the Gen I folks "watching" their original head gaskets.

Enjoy the read !!

Steve,
How do you go about contacting them to send in a sample and how long does it take to get results? What do they charge?

Hi, *****. I believe that the cost is about $19.50 for a regular sample, with another $10.00 for TBN (of interest, but maybe more useful for applications where oil is in extended...which, of course, is NOT the typical Viper story). I'm hedging on the cost as I prepay 10-12 at a time.

The turn around time is fast...I usually send it by First Class Mail, takes about 1-2days to get there...then BOOM, the report is e-mailed back to me with numbers, trends, and knowledgable comments and insights.

To get started, give them a call for a sample mailer kit (one or more), and they will tell you how to collect sample (I drive Viper to get oil "hot", and am SURE to catch sample in mid-flow from drain plug...not the first or last oil out).
