I'm using Mobil now, but considering changing to Penzoil. Is there anyone on the board using Penzoil in their Viper?
If so, wich model of Penzoil are you using?
I use my Viper mainly for Dragracing...

The Penzoil guys are 100% that they have similar quality as Mobil... to a cost that is 1/3 of Mobil. Just curious to know if anyone have experience from Penzoil. RoyalPurple is as you say a bit to much pointed towards racing...but I'm only using my Viper for racing, wonder if anyone sells the Purple stuff in Sweden?

Royal Purple, Red Line, Mobil 1, are all great. Of course the Penzoil guys would say that, wouldn't you if you were them? I'm sure you can mail order it somewhere.

When I saw this post, I was going to ask about Amsoil. Anyone else out there to attest to it's quality and performance? How about their filters?

This topic can lead to heated debate, but....My car has Amsoil products from front to back. Air filters, oil filter, grease, differential, tranny, and motor. Been using this stuff since 1976 with excellent results.

I wouldn't use Penzoil in a Neon, much less a Viper. It's cheap, crappy oil. Stick with Mobil One for sure.

On my next oil change I plan to use Royal Purple. I have only heard great things, but I need to see for myself. If you want to be safe stay with the Mobil, good stuff.

Skip, I've been looking at SERIES 2000 - SAE 20W-50 Synthetic Racing Oil, is that the one you use?

I think the biggest thing about Mobil 1 is that Wal-Mart will put 5 quarts in, filter, top fluids, AND vacuum your carpet for $30.

Biggest problem w/Viper is that you have to have a Wal-Mart with rails that are low enough to drive over the pit.

They must have a partnership with Mobil.

For this price, there is no reason not to run Mobil 1 in all of your cars. That's what I do.

Just a couple replies about Amsoil.
http://vca1.viperclub.org/ubb/Forum14/HTML/009661.html

"Based on my personal experiance with amsoil in my race car(a porsche) I would stick with the mobil 1."

"I used Amsoil in a D50 RAM truck and in 5K miles it varnished my motor. Heresay is that Amsoil is a wheat (as in cereal grain) based derivative. As with other vegetable based oils, it would probably make for a good furniture varnish!"

I still use Mobil 1 and always have in everything, I was going to try a new oil but I have found several negative posts that give me reasons to stick with Mobile 1. I have read independant lab tests done with Mobile1 and other leading oils that lead me use Mobile 1 , but I haven't found much in the way of Amsoil other than that of their own stats.

Where is information comparing Amsoil to Mobile1, I'd like to read it and switch to the best oil for my car.

BTW isn't Penzoil the same thing as Quaker State.

We use Amsoil in my Viper as well as all of our customers' Vipers. Stuff works great! Period.

While I don't see anything wrong with Mobil One, it's very good (the next best thing) too, from the research, it does appear the Amsoil is every bit as good, if not better. We would choose either Mobil One or Amsoil over Red Line any day.

I've known a few people that swear by Amsoil, but I've never used it. It sounds very interesting, but all oil collects carbon deposits. That can't be good for your motor. Amsoil may not break down as fast or whatever, but dirty is dirty. Am I right? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanxs for sharing your ideas and experience regarding oil and Vipers. I ended up with Mobil 1 one more season... can't be wrong.

Cheers from Sweden!

Big Carrot,
I 'spect Tom the oil guy, will be chipping in soon, but filtering has a lot to do with oil longevity. That goes for air filters as well. They need to be kept clean. Top grade oil filters-like Amsoil or Mobil use a better media filtering system which takes out much smaller particles than a standard grade filter. If you going to use a long drain on your vehicle, the oil filter needs to be changed about half way through. In addition, I would recommend oil analysis. I am changing the oil and filter every 6000 miles or so on the Viper. I am going to send it in on my change--about 7K miles--for analysis. All my other vehicles, I routinely run 20-25K miles between changes and have for over 26 years
