I have just about 400 miles on our SRT 10 and have noticed the oil pressure indicates 75 to 80 lbs. PSI when running on the highway. What has everyone else experienced when starting up and after it has warmed up? Just concerned it may be to high.

Funny you should mention that! Started it up this morning and put another 100 miles on the clock. Also noticed the oil pressure on the highway and snapped a photo:

At a stop it would drop back to around 60. Rather have it too high than too low!

Gary: It does not make sense that a normal indicating oil pressure would be at the "end" of a gauge readout. If the gauge went to 100/120 that would be more logical. Also too much oil pressure is not a good thing and can cause problems within the engine and possibly the hoses that carry the pressure. Because another driver has noticed the same reading I would NOT suspect the gauge as being "out of calibration". If this is the "normal" oil pressure" something sure has changed with this SRT engine. The normal, warm oil pressure on our GEN2 cars is about 60PSI if I remember. Let us know what you find out. Fred C.

I talked to the zone service lead about this, he said this is perfectly normal, mine is pegged all the time when I'm on it it seems.

Phewwww. No reason to panic.

Using the Search feature on this board and finding this thread was a relief as I noticed after a few hundred miles on my brand new SRT, I'm suddenly seeing 80 psi much of the time too.

Guess high readings are still normal and no one is having any engine issues??? (aside from the known valve issue)

I suspect these cars have a high volume oil pump in them. This is very protective of the bearings. Yes it does put more general wear on the bearings, but Dodge has realized that this car is not drove to exsessive high mileage, but is drove in a rather aggressive way. Hot rodders used to be warned about high volume oil pumps if they wanted to drive high mileage with the car. I'm sure 80 psi is ok on this car. Sure will give good protection on the bearings at 6-k rpm. I run 0W-30 Amsoil synthetic oil in the car. I hope no one out there would put a heavy weight oil in the car such as 20W-50 This would be sure death on the bearings upon warm up, and when fully warmed up.

I've got 1900 miles on mine. At idle I have 40 pounds when the engine is warm. At 1500 RPM, engine warm, it's around 70 pounds. Up over 2000, around 80 pounds. Notice, unlike all the other gauges, there is no red warning color on the high side.

Just wanted to bring this to the top. I picked up my Mamba today, and my gauge is not like the one above. for '04, the gauge now reads up to 100 PSI, with 50PSI being in the middle.

My car with 60 miles on it, is about 80 PSI at idle cold, 80 PSI at speed hot, and about 45 PSI at hot idle.

Congrats!
Interesting about the new oil pressure gauge. I wonder why the change?

I would suspect the change was due to people wondering about the "pegged" high, which is actually normal.

Thanks for the info Daniel, as we have had tons of 03s and 04s, and they all read like Garys. Good to see the change, and I didn't notice it, as this has been a question for quite awhile -though we have told everyone it is normal.
