OMG! RT HF cats and Corsa 3\" catback just put on!!

Just put them on in the garage. It was a REALLY easy install. I was running stock before, so the change is bigtime! That Corsa website is pretty bang on for the sound comparisons, mine is a little more "snappy" with the HF cat. Idle is cool, under throttle is great and WOT is just madness. The car is absolutely screamin! Then when you let off the throttle, there is snapping and cracking going on. Very similar to roman candles going off. The car is absolutley music to my ears, and the car is WAYYYY less hot. It felt like a d@mn turkey barn before with that heat. All in all I give this a 10/10 on both expected results and actual results. You stock guys who are considering switchin'.........do it. It is not too loud either, you control the noise you want to make with the loud pedal! lol!

Ordered my stuff from JonB at Partsrack. I like this guy. Straight, efficient and answered my questions. I think it took only 6 days to get it here!!! This is my second order with you Jon and after several years of surfing the board here I have learnt so much from you. I feel a sense of obligation to due business with people who have shared so much knowledge with me via this board; and it is even better when the guy you are doing it with is bang on.

Thanks Jon,

Re: OMG! RT HF cats and Corsa 3

got a sound clip of your new system? I've heard the Corsa clips from their website, but was thinking of going with similar setup you have, with possibly headers as well(wouldn't that be easier to do it all at once?). Gotta love those black on black '00 RT/10's!!!

I did the same as you. I did the Bellanger headers last month, to top it off. It sounds pretty wicked.

Does your car smell different now when you get on the gas?

I noticed a big change in smell!

Congrats!

Re: OMG! RT HF cats and Corsa 3

Sapp, no smell yet, only got about 20 miles on them. I remember your post awhile back about the smell from your car. I will keep an eye out and let you know if I have it too.

Lethal, I can send you a .wav file tomorrow if you want. I can put the camera on a tripod; say 5 feet away and at 5 feet (similar to the height of an ear) and let it idle, throttle down etc... and yes lethal, you are one of few gifted people that know black on black is the best ;)

Gerald being another of course...and Gerald, I placed the phone call to Ruh Roe racing about 3 weeks ago. Very doable. Just concerned about my extended warranty being voided. Perhaps a little NO2...know aybody doing an install on a black rt 2000??? LOL! :D

Re: OMG! RT HF cats and Corsa 3

awesome Mike, sure not waiting long to mod buddy!!!

have to compare this summer, I love my X delete, Roe Ovals and 98+ header, sounds great, love to hear yours, ,maybe a side by side audio track would be good to post as well under the same distance and conditions for reference.

have to love those throttle burbles on the downshifts!

as per my other thread, I've got deeper problems right now than getting gushy over exhaust noises so I'll stop now!!

taking some much needed vacation in July Mike, like three weeks, surely we can get together somewhere in there and terrorize our choice of cities in between your place and mine!

take care, you and Gerald will paint your cars Blue/White, it's all a matter of time! :D

I installed pretty much the same system from JonB. I couldn't like it more!!!

Fantastic sound. I just got back from putting about 800 miles on the snake. The sound is quiet running in 6th at about 90 MPH. Yet when you get on it - it sounds GREAT!!!

Did it all in my garage - pretty easy installation.

i think it's the best sound for casual driving, not to loud normally, but great sound when you get on it.

D@mnit!

I was up in Portland for the race JonB - I was hanging out there at the Tracy pits too! I wish I had said something before heading up....

Quite the hi-profile pit, as P.T. was really talking smack. Chris Pook scolded him privately in fatherly fashion, while using me (6'3") as a media block. They were practically leaning on me! I was their only crew member in safety orange....the rest were blu/white.

Tracy used to own a Red Viper...he sold it last year.
They call him P.T. and I promised to send him a PTCruiser emblem....

MHQC, so you did not weld the hi-flow cat back in place?
An all clamp install?
Oval or round cats?
Thanks

I got the RT HF cats, Corsa 3" catback, and Belanger headers put on my Viper at Woodhouse before I even flew out to pick up my Viper and drive it home. When I dynoed it last year - 436 rwHP & 480 rwTQ - it was the 2nd loudest sound I've ever heard.

Then Sean Roe finished up his supercharger system and I had it installed and went back to the dyno - see results below - and it was the 3rd loudest sound I've ever heard. Yes, amazingly enough the Roe Supercharger quieted my exhaust sound.

So, if you ever decide the RT HF cats & Corsa 3" catback are too loud for you, then add Belanger headers and the Roe Supercharger System. :D

I was going to ask the same install question, all clamp or weld? MHQC? There was discussion about this before,
my RT HF cat and Corsa cat back is an all clamp install, and of course I got everything from JonB also...He can
get as busy as a one armed paper hanger, but he knows his stuff cold!!

Maybe I should check my clamped joint in front of the cat, its been on there for almost a year now!

Gotta love the burbbles, pop pop pop, etc...

Re: OMG! RT HF cats and Corsa 3

Tomer and Viperjoe,

I did infact have the front welded. Just took a sawzall and cut right on the first weld that starts before the intake of the cat. Then you just slide the reducer over the stock pipe and fit the cat over the reducer. Then you bolt on the rest of the Corsa exhaust. Kit came with 6 3" V-clamps. Before I started this job I hit all the joints and original clamps/bolts with some "liquid wrench" and let it sit for a day. Made a HUGE difference.

Now what is great about this install is after everything is bolted up (it took about 50 minutes to slap it together; it went REALLY well) I just drove down to the local muffler shop with the sidesills off and had him weld the two joints right infront of the HF cat (Viperjoe, this is the Random Tech HF 3" metal substrate cat). It took the guy less than 10 minutes and there is no leaks. It worked out perfect, I did the install and was able to drive it to the shop for the weld, piece of cake. The guy said it was far and away the nicest exhaust system he has ever seen. He noticed that it was 3" from one end to the other (even in the bends).

I was wondering if any of you know if there is a "learning" period on the Viper after one of these installs? The exhaust note has changed over the last 300 miles, and the car just pulls like a ****!! Huge differnce IMHO when driving.

So, if you ever decide the RT HF cats & Corsa 3" catback are too loud for you, then add Belanger headers and the Roe Supercharger System.

Sun Ra, you are a genius, this is an excellent way to convince my honey that a SC is necessary to quiet it down. Thanks for putting it in writing! ;)

This system sounds so intimidating. If any of you want to chat about the install a little more just PM and it will be my pleasure.

Re: OMG! RT HF cats and Corsa 3

Are those RT metal substrate cats the same as the round or ovals I see offered by different vendors, or they yet a third model available?
Are they round or oval?

Thanks

Re: OMG! RT HF cats and Corsa 3

VJoe, check out this link. The cat at the bottom of the page gives you a good idea. There are not really round, more compacted and flattened out. Lotsa space leftover versus the originals. I went cruisin' last night; it was 95 degrees and 92% humidity, and the inside of the car where you pout your feet was not even warm. JonB made a good point when I bought them; he said since there is leftover space you could always insulate the sills a little more.

For mine I put everything in place clamped everything except the cats. Drove it to a midas shop and the guys welded it (the cats) on for just a $$ tip. There's a reducer on the cat that has to be welded as well - I didn't like the fact of having 2 clamps that close on the cat and the reducer. The welds worked the best and I'd recommend that based on my install.

It's a tight enough fit for the drive over - didn't even throw a code - and now I don't have to worry about tighting the clamps or the clamps working loose at the cats.

Re: OMG! RT HF cats and Corsa 3

Vipersrule, I was thinking about throwing another V-clamp over the weld on the reducer to the cat. Maybe your Midas guys did a better job welding, but I think I have a minute amount of exhaust escaping. What do you think?

My cat and reducer fit tight enough that I didn't even need the clamps to get it down to the midas shop.

I'd get the weld (which I did). Then you don't have any issues. I didn't feel comfortable with the clamps so close on the cat and reducer. The reducer fits pretty tight in the cat, but with the weld it a perfect and sealed fit - no worry or issues about it vibrating loose.

It's about the same amount of work - you have to pull the side sills anyway. It's an easy weld for the midas guys - plus just give the midas guys a tip for the same amount as the clamp (I think the clamps are about $15 bucks each) - for $20 bucks I'm sure they'd do a great job and same you about $10 overall.
