One option I wish the viper had, no key starting!

I noticed on a commercial for I believe Lexus, you can enter the car with a credit card sized card in your wallet and never take it out to start the car. Mercedes does it to. Basically you put this credit card sized card anywhere on your body. When you get close to the car it unlocks the doors, and when you get in, you just hit the start button. No key. Now I know that I will get guys saying this is a race car not a luxury SUV, but I would love to just get in and hit the button. No looking or messing with keys. And when you get out and walk away it locks the car automatically. I want a race car like the Viper, but I love technology as well. Wish you could at least have options. Guys that want to save weight can order 0, and guys that like power and techno buttons can get the garage door button on the mirror, auto dimming mirrors, cruise control, climate control, etc... Don't beat me up because I think some of those things are ingenious...

I had a car that would open & lock the doors whenever you walked within 10 ft of the car. It got so bad I never knew if the car was open or locked & I ended up disabling the option on its key Fob. It becomes a novelty that wears out quickly. The old KISS adage has its merits...(Keep It Simple Stupid) :)

A thief knows the Lexus/Mercedes does this. How much effort to steal your car (with you in the trunk?) Same thing with a fingerprint system, just cut off someones finger.....

I guess it makes 'some' sense that only the true professionals or desperate would try.

What happens if you're riding down the road and something interferes with this signal between the card and the car? We have a security card like this at work that is sometimes perfect and sometimes I think solar flares/cell phones etc effect it.

I have a new MB SL600 with "Keyless GO" No card, just have the key in your pocket or somewhere within 3 ft of the car and the door unlocks for you when you grab the door handle. When in the car you simply push the starter button on top of the gear selector. Upon exiting the car, if you want to lock the doors, simply touch the door handle for a moment and it locks all doors. Pretty neat stuff.

That, cut off your finger thing, really sticks in my mind. I never really thought of that. Best to leave well enough alone.

How about just putting the ignition in a better place, such as the dash, as you see many cars now, and the way all cars were 40 years ago. The start button thing, I find very novel, a bit cool, but it's hard to beat the one step proccess that's been around for a long time.

Again, I love my Viper. Just love technology too. Would love to at least have the options. Then you could opt out and I could opt in
