You might remember my blue 1:43 GTS that came with one of my Great Garages dioramas? I never did think that the color looked anything like the real thing, so about 3 weeks ago I got the bright idea to go to my local body shop and see if the owner could paint it Viper Race Yellow (#PYR).
Luckily he did, but this is where it gets funny: I tell him to just put it in a bucket of paint stripper to make it easier, instead he says that he will treat it like a 1:1 car and mask off the entire engine bay, black inside hood part and ALL and then sand prep plus paint the thing :omg:! Mind you the model is no bigger than the palm of your hand, and to really put the icing on the cake I even got a tiny bottle of touch-up paint, exactly his same procedure as with real cars! The reason it took 3 weeks is that he did it in between jobs so that he could cut me a nice & low price, I still gave him a tip though :headbang:
From here on I will let the pictures do the talking, I'm extremely pleased with the result. Some parts like hood grills, headlights, side markers in front bumper, mirrors, gas cap and rear window surround I had to hand paint again. Just for kicks I took off the Roe blower from the red/white car.

Car looks great, never thought of a real body shop for painting. Couldn't you get spray touchup paint to match the color and then paint it yourself. That way, you are more in control of how it comes out.

By the way, I think the car is missing something or......you plan to enter it in bobsled competition!:omg::lmao:

Good stuff.:headbang:

I could but I know of myself that I don't have the right kind of "feeling" for spray painting something, especially in this small of a size :( My fingers are more into technical stuff like scratchbuilding a Roe supercharger so tiny that it fits a 1:43 car.
I don't neccessarily need to have control over the outcome as long as I know that things will be done right or not at all, and with this paint and body nutcase you can be sure that you will hit gold (or should I say Viper Race Yellow :D?). It's supposed to be missing a set of wheels that will be stacked against the garage wall because I plan to put it on a set of jackstands, just like it's red/white sister ;)
All I need to do is find time to put everything into the second display case and build a second Roe blower with black and yellow accents.
