The lug nuts on the Vipers and my '99 Dakota are surprisingly cheap. I'm sure many of you know, but for those who don't, they are not one solid part. They are steel nuts with a Chrome outer sleeve. After a while, especially if you were to use an impact wrench to at least get the lugs off, the sleeve loosens up and could come off or worse yet, you may be faced with a damaged lug that you can't get off, and you could only imagine the problems then. I've been careful with the Viper, but the lugs on my Dakota are shot. I want to change them all. I need 1/2" thread, 3/4" outer sized, buldge nut. Many of the auto places I have gone don't even carry them and those who do only carry a small supply. Anyone on this board sell them or know where I could go to get a full supply without having to pick and choose from ten diferent places??

Thanks
Andrew

Try here: Summit lug nuts

If you change that much, consider getting some copper-based anti-seize for the threads and the "face" where the tapered seat contacts the wheel. I've have to re-finish the wheel seat face before on older wheels because the metal to metal contact scores the seat.

Call Keith (Moody) at Bobby Archer in Texas - (817) 877-1772.
We bought 3 sets from him at ViperDays - nice, chromed, acorn heads. Support those who support us.

Andrew,

If I remember I loaned you at Watkins Glen a breaker bar to break one of these lug nuts off....I bought several individual sets from John Archer that day for I had the same problem.

For those of us who torque the lug nuts frequently make sure you have a breaker bar handy otherwise the rim is not going to come off....could catch when you do not have a Viper friend around!

My lcoal mag shop sells McGard lug nuts. They are guaranteed that the chrome will never chip or flake. I put a set on my GTS and they look great. I have them on my Bronco too. Oh yeah..and on my '72 Plymouth. I understand that the cheap chrome nuts crack and cip because the metal underneat is softer and allows "flex"...then the chrome comes off. McGards are made of much better steel.

Once again, sounds like Archer is the guy. Thanks everyone. And Tom, that anti-seize stuff is a good idea. I was using white lithium grease, but I have some stuff called Never-Seez by Bostik that I should use.
