Explaining Viper things to you
Short of the kits like you buy at Auto Zone etc, I think the other end of the spectrum is really the better deal try R&J Distributing they disassemble them and powdercoat them. That would be the most correct way but costs way more than rattlecan. Also try Eastwood they may have something in the middle.

the caliper has to be totally disassembled before powdercoating it

I've used the spray cans on several cars with excellent results. Just tape off what you don't want painted. Clean with brake cleaner then lacquar thinner. Apply several light coats so they don't run. Good luck. If you pull them off the rotar and remove the pads you'll have better results.:)

VHT caliper paint sold at Autozone does a decent job. I've only tried it in black, though.

I had my calipers proffesionally sprayed copperhead, with black viper stickers then clearcoated. now they perfectly match the copperhead and black color scheme on my car with a finish as good as the body paint. A&C Performance took care of all this. Calipers looks great. The entire caliper, fittings, tubes, front and back were done.

They deterred me from powdercoated because then the entire caliper assembly would have to be stripped down and seals cannot go into the oven, then it only make sense to use new seals on re assembly. Too much labor and parts costs.

I guess if copperhead was available in high heat spray can I may have saved money and just done that, however they are real nice now.

Ted what kind of brush did you use. And what did you clean the caliper with. That looks really good.Did you pop the pads out when you painted? How many coats?
Thanks John

The calipers were new. Didn't like the 'neutral' color for my Sapphire car so I bought a Duplicolor Caliper paint kit for about $30. Brush and everything needed came in the box. I painted the calipers twice with the brush in the kit. Brakeclean is an excellent cleaner, but my stock powder coated calipers only need a wipe and they're clean.

First coat the calipers looked terrible with big streaks, but the paint flows out so when they're drying they look much better. I painted the second coat the opposite direction. The now have about 25,000 miles on them (with a track day) and they're still like new.

I had no pads in the calipers for the first coat. You could paint them on the car if you wanted, from outside the wheel there's not too much that can be seen. I just like to do "that little bit extra" to make them perfect. Here's what they look like with the wheels on.
