I am looking for a part number for the side sill rivets that hold on the heat shields. I called a Dodge dealer and they can't find the number so we think it is not sold as an end item but as part of the whole side sill, heat shield assembly itself. Where can I get some rivets like these. My heat shields have distorted from all the excess heat under there and as a result they have pulled some of the rivets out completely. I would like to bend the heat shields back into place and rivet them on again. The heat shield has also disintegrated in a probably 6" X 6" area right near the cats on both sides. So I got a cat heat shield from Thermo-tec that I am going to rivet into place on top of the stock heat shield in those areas. I had hi-flow cats installed a few days ago which have solved my excess heat problem, but i would still like to repair the heat shields.

Dodge refuses to fix the problem under my extended warranty because they claim my aftermarket headers and exhaust caused the problem. I also have paint bubbling near some of the rivets and bolts and yellowing on the right side sill. All of this Dodge refuses to fix under warranty even though this was a TSB.

Anyways, if anyone knows the part number or where I can find similar rivets let me know.

Here is what I have learned..I have a 96 RT/10 with paint bubbling around the rivets and yellowing also...

I got the sill's repainted due to another little excursion I had off road, if you know what I mean (arghhhhhhhhhh)...

But, if you are the original owner, you should have a better chance of getting the sills replaced...If you are not (like me, I think its like a snowball's chance in ____....

I have heard Chrysler has made "deals" with owners, where the owner pays 1/3 cost of replacements...OK, but at~ $7000 parts and paint, thats ~ $2300 out of pocket for you...If you know a good body shop that can weld your rivet holes closed and do the necessary body work and paint, then glue in your insulation, or even just jam it in and put the sill on, as it is not going anywhere, you are further ahead on the issue...

The newer style side sills have eliminated the rivets (due to the heat problem we are experiencing) and they glue the insulation to the sills...I am not sure what glue they use though...

Hope this is of some help

I agree with Tomer, the insulation won't go anywhere. The adhesive they use dries out and flakes off after 5,000 miles anyhow, and that is a fact. So the heat insulation is just pressed in there between the sill and the exhaust. It can't move.
