Has anyone used something like this on thier viper? It says it will do 3/4 of a ton of pressure on the springs....is that enough pressure to compress the springs? Let me know if this is a piece of junk or not.

thanks

AB,

The capacity of it will be enough to compress the Viper springs...3/4 ton is around 1,600lbs, which is much higher than the higest spring rates you'll find on a Viper (which top out around 1,000lbs maybe).

The only thing I would suggest is get one with some sort of protective surround. If you've never seen a 600-1,000lb spring come out of a spring compressor, well it can be ugly and can kill you.

They make models which have a couple of bars to prevent the spring from snapping out - I'd go with that.

If you are not concerned about that issue, then this one will be more than adequate to remove your shocks/springs.

Thanks Mike!! I think this one has the safety feature. I was using a cheap screw type and it popped out on me..so I said to myself..enough of that crap!..Scared the hell out of me.

Thanks!

Chuck is correct get the branick. It is the one that 99% of garages use. It is the safest and easist to use. But why are you buying one? It does not cost much to take the spring to a shop and have them change it for you.

Yup, I looked at the Bransnick model. It ran about $400-500 buckaroo's. I wouldn't be changing my springs that much to justify the money. The shops around here charged me $60.00 to remove the springs from the shocks.(This is after I took them off the car myself. I thought that was a bit steep. I figured this would be a nice tool to have around in case I ever need to take springs off again.
