I just got back from a track event at Pikes Peak International Raceway today. It was sponsored by Ford's performance division, so there were lots of Cobras, lightnings and Focuses (Foci??) along with a smattering of other vehicles, including quite a few Vipers (but no Ford GT.) I had the only SRT-10 at the event.

It was a pretty fun track day, and a nice opportunity to run on a smooth, high-banked track. We ran on the road course, which makes use of most of the NASCAR oval, but has a twisty-turny section connecting the two straights.

A race-prepped Viper GTS Coupe provided the most excitment of the day when it caught fire on the back straight, spewing huge flames fifty feet behind the speeding car. One of our very own, VCA Colorado chapter president Bob Cloutier saved the day, pulling over to help and dousing the fire with his extinguisher. Checking out the burned car, it wasn't nearly as damaged as I originally thought from all the flames. I'm sure that with a little work, it will be good as new.

One thing I learned from the event is that (in spite of all the bragging during the drivers' meeting) a Viper is simply a waaaay better track car than any Cobra. Other than the unfortunate incident with the fire, Vipers were clearly the class of the event. It was amazing to see how easy it was for the Vipers to overtake the other cars.

All in all a good day. Lots of great people. Lots of fun. Can't wait for my next track day.
