You start by calling Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, CAAP, at 313-369-6702. When I called, they must have been out to lunch, cause no one answered. I left my inquiry on their answering machine, but no one called back, to my knolwedge.

I also want to go before the current style is removed from the line. If you guys wanna make a team, I'm in.

I'll try and call 'em again tomorrow. IF you get any info, please email me, or post here.

Thanks, Vic

All right guys here is the info you seek. Start by calling Sylvia at 1-313-369-6702. The best time to go is a Friday as that is the day that customer pick-ups are arranged and there may be a new owner also touring the plant. It works much easier if there are a few people who want to do it so plan an outing, and let others know on the board so you can organize a small group. Regarding hotels you will want to stay away from the immediate area as it is in the heart (or another organ of your choice) of the city. Our Illinois group has stayed at the Marriot Centerpoint (Pontiac)for the past few years but it is a bit of a drive, an easy 1/2 hour. The benefit is that you can go to the Walter P Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills easily. Just to fill you in, the current display is heavy into Jeep (50 year anniversary). The Ford Museum is at the other end of town near Dearborn. Hopefully this answers some of your questions. regaring restrictions you will want to clear that with Sylvia. Tour ussually lasts 1 hour unless you want to then go and look closely at some processes. Remember to hit the store. prowler line shuts down on Feb 15th so if you want to them built you don't have much time.

Guys,
You might want to contact your local chapter president to see what can be set up that way too! The tour lasts about an hour and a half or so, and the store takes even longer! Ha! I don't think there is an age limit on the young'uns Mark, and the hotels are not that far away. I stayed at the Red Roof Inn last year near Chrylser Headquarters and it was not a very long drive to Connor Road Assmebly Plant from there. You might want to visit the Chrysler museum too, it's right near the Chrysler Headquarters. Mark you will love the cars in the basement of the museum, they are almost all Hemis! lots of Dodge and Plymouth racing history there, and in the main museum there is a Chrysler turbine car there, and an original prototype of the Viper. Contact the MCVO for more information too, a lot of their members work for Chrysler and might be able to help in getting you in easier. The Henry Ford museum is outside the heart of the city and is probably about 20 - 30 minutes away. It is worth the visit too. Hopefully sombody from Detroit will chime in here to give you a better idea as to distances and motels and the like. Use mapquest for driving distances and hotel lists.

Don't miss touring ASC. This is a must see for every Viper owner! This is where the body panels are prepped, painted, clearcoated and finished before going to CAAP. They are located in Livonia which is about a 35-40 minute trip from CAAP. Contact Barry Matthews to arrange the tour 734-692-9400 ext#6460. Just found out ASC's work schedule is very busy the next couple of months. So call well in advance to find out when is the best time for your group to visit.

Mark I just went last summer before the Mopar Nats...the tour was about an hour and a half long and was cool to do. Silvia was out sick so a plant worker gave the tour. I stayed in Warren, MI about 5 minutes from the plant. I forget the name of the hotel but I think it was a Ramada Inn. It was on the main drag in Warren. Nice hotel. Actually the Plant is easily overlooked when trying to find it. Funny thing is that no one in that area knew where the heck it was. My tour group which was comprised of me and a few others only had one young elementary age child. We had to wear safety glasses that were provided. Take alot of film...make sure you have a good camera with flash since there is alot of low lighting...

When you go, do not be shy. Talk to the guys on the line (building the cars). They will answer any question you have. If they do not have the answer, they will take you to the person does. I was very impressed.
