I was thinking of buying 96 rims to put on my 95. I would like opinions of what a yellow car with BLACK rims (powder coated) would look like. Good ,Bad, Ugly? Is it OK to coat these rims? If I don't like the look , can the rims be stripped then chromed?
Thanks for your opinions!
Is there anyone out there with black rims?

I am doing that now. I have a set of '95 rims I am stripping to paint black and use on my white '96. I am just tired of brake dust. The factory silver finish is tough. Stripper softens it, but a wire wheel is still needed to remove the finish. No gouging the metal with a fine/medium wire wheel. I am going to just prime and paint as opposed to powder coat.

Thanks so much for the cool photo-shop picture...it definitely gives me a better idea of what it will look like! Is there anyone out there who has actually gone through with the job? Does anyone have a car with yellow paint/black rims...whether it is a Vette, Porsche, Lamborghini, etc.? (pictures?)

Thanks!

Black chrome is beautiful!! The only place I ever saw it was on my '80 Corvette shift knob. Never thought of having it on wheels. I bet that looks great. Pic's?

Tom P. post some wheel photos. I first had it on my Harley Bad
Boy model in 1995. I thought it would look good on a
black Viper. I think it does.

I have powder coated wheels on my street Audi S4, and they are teriffic for quick clean up of the brake dust that accumulates and for the tough finish that it gives. But, I'm not sure how powder coating would work with racing wheels. My Viper track wheels get up to 1000 F degs. at the hubs on a hot day at the track and I'm sure that others can verify even higher temperatures. I don't know the melting temperature of the vinyl coating, but I would bet that this is getting close to where it will flow.

Here's a photo of 1/2 of my blacked out rims combo. I can't find any photos of the car when I had all 4 powdercoated black wheels on the car. Those rears hadn't been washed in probably over a year and looked just as good as they did when they were clean!
