Preparation for open track?

What is the minimum that I should do to my GTS to make it open track ready?

I am thinking,
- Brake lines
- Brake fluid
- 5-point harness

Do I need tranny or rear end cooler?

What else would you suggest?

You have the minimums plus:
Brake Pads ( PFC 93/01 or Porterfield R4). Good idea to get an ACR or similar oil pan with the trap doors and baffles to prevent oil starvation caused by high g's.

Once you get used to it then the next steps would involve shocks/springs, alignment, rotor/caliper upgrades, headers/exhaust, Hoosiers. You can also check the Viper Days Matrix and use that as a guide.

I don't know when you will get your Creampuff but if you get it before 9/28, drive down to Portland International for the VCA track event.

I would also add...
Brake cooling
Brake cooling
Brake cooling

And I don't mean those Porsche air deflectors, they are almost useless. Go to NAPA and get some flexible Air Intake Hoses for $15 ea. Use ties to hold them in place.

Or you can spend $$$ and get what the big boys use.

If you're going to track the car regularly get a larger radiator and oil pan.

Slow C5, I would suggest 6 points for both driver and passenger. You should contact JonB for information on Team Tech 6 points as well as other suggestions as there are many other modifications that you can make depending upon your goals with the car. I will be glad to provide more detail as well - Janni and I have been through this on 2 cars now as we run both of ours in Viper Days Super Stock class. Feel free to contact me...

Start with a Skip Barber 2 day Driving School, followed by a couple car control clinics then a 3 day racing school. With as many autocross events as possible. Car balance, braking, proper line are all important to keep your snake on a safe path.

"Huge Deal"? If you have a 1996-1999 Viper, it is hugely important IF you are running track tires, or done anything else to pull more than stock-G forces.

"Huge Deal" as in difficult? NOPE ! Very easy. Upgraded oil pan, windage/scraper tray, and billet gasket $600. Trapdoors $299.
