I did a search on this topic and read the majority of threads regarding PS2's and Sport cups for mainly street driving. What is the latest opinion now that the new PS2's have been out for a while? I like the idea of the additional performance and traction of the Sport Cups but I don't want to spray sand and gravel down the side of my new Street Serpent coupe. I am going to mount these tires on Copperhead wheels. What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance for your opinions...

Like everything, it's a tade off, HOWEVER, the difference in this case is slight. If you're using your Viper ONLY to "race" (track or street) then you might consider sport cups. But unless you are out only to prowl for competition, the PS2's will be everything you'll need (and more).

I would only use sport cups if it was track only. For the street, you'll want the PS2's

The hands down absolute most effective mod on my GenII was going from old Pilots to Kumho V700s. I cannot see why any of you GenIII and III.5 guys would not pick the Cups over the PS2s.

I have driven them both on the street and track. I have chosen to run PS2's for the street and cups at the track. I'm not sure the cups are the greatest in the rain. The cups are stickier than the PS2's. But on the street the PS2's will last longer.

Thanks for the info. I value 'real life" experience over reading the info from a promotional brochure.

I won't drive the car in the rain, unless of course I get caught out in one of those unexpected summer showers. I have registered the car for Viper Days at Putnam Park which is the only planned track event at this time. So basically it's a trade off of performance for longevity.

Flash1034... "4500 miles" Hmmm, at that rate I would need a new set almost every year

Having run both, get the PS2's for your useage, i.e. mostly street. The new 19 inch PS2's have stiffer sidewalls than the 18 inch ones and will do very well at the track for a street tire.

If you are going to track the car, get track wheels and track tires. There are much better choices for track tires than PS Cups. They are a compromise at best. Want more info? Call John Archer at Archer Racing and ask him. John is the tire vendor for Viper Days.

When I buy my new ACR, I'll take the PS Cups off as soon as I get the car. Don't like them at all on Viper.

I bought a set of pilot sport cups for use in the Silver State Classic, they handled the high speed on the sometimes uneven streets very well. The surprise I had with them was when I got back near sea level and found out that at the race track they were 2/3 the way to slicks versus my baseline with the PS2s. I use the CUPs for everyday summer driving on my ~650+ hp Viper and even if you don't go to the track the launches from the standing start are an order of magnitude better thanks to the softer compound.

My opnion, I would save the PS2s for rainy days or colder weather and use the CUPs all summer. Once last thought, with gasoline at $4/gallon and a car that is roughly $100k, I put gas mileage in the same category with tire wear, if that is your concern then maybe the Viper isn't the car for you.

James, by your comment of: "Once last thought, with gasoline at $4/gallon and a car that is roughly $100k, I put gas mileage in the same category with tire wear, if that is your concern then maybe the Viper isn't the car for you." do you mean us poor, down trodden, unworthy individuals, can't dream about having the coolest car ever built or, egads, even purchase one???????? Or do we all have to rich and arrogant like you???? Inquiring minds want to know???? :)
