Hey everyone,
I replaced my brakes on the 99(both pads and rotors), but thought I would keep the stockers as a spare. This was the first brake job for the car, no previous surfacing of the rotors were done. The rears were out of spec right off the bat. The fronts were very close, but after having them surfaced, they are sitting at 29.6 and 30.1. My question to the people in the know(2 viper Chuck maybe ;) ), can the fronts still be used? I know the min is suppose to be 30.4, but we are only talking about a very small amount of material. Any hazards if they are used? Again, these are merely spares. So if they are junk, no biggie. Maybe Ebay? Thanks for any info,

Mike

Are these just one use rotors? I remember back in the day  , you could cut a rotor two maybe three times before a new one was needed.

I've kept mine just because I have a difficult time throwing anything away. Honestly, I doubt that I will ever use them. The Viper deserves better. A good two piece rotor with aluminum annodized hats (Stoptech most likely) will be the replacement when I'm ready. Even for a "pose" mobile you should use functional race ready equipment. :)

Vipers generate a ton of heat , and once they go below the specs , it is best to just to scrap the rotors. According to HGTV, if you scrub down with a wire brush and use a pleasant shade of Rustoleum, they do make an:
1. Attractive base stand for a Gearhead floor lamp.
2. Fun shuffleboard shuttlecocks for your friends on Steroids.
3. With a lovely green base, sprinkled with gold sequins, a great potholder for your mother-in-law.
4. Painted black and discreetly put on your child's Soapbox Derby Racer, you will kill the competition with the extra " Cheater" weight--plus you can run over anyone who irritates you.
5. Painted silver, they make wonderful discuss's for your Steroid friends -- boy are they getting alot of neat things out of this.
6. Using the halfshaft of that rotten old Honda you keep around, attach to each end for an inexpensive set of dumbbells.

Hey, what the heck, somebody has to take Martha Stewart's place if they hussle her off to the Penn.
