Had some on the road fun with an SRT today!

One of my tenants was hosting a Mopar car show at his DC dealership and had invited for me to bring the Viper for kicks, I said sure.

PVO had sent over the 03 with Michigan manufacturers plate, roped off on the showroom floor. Had a fun time lurking around people to hear their comments, both on the SRT and on my GenII.....some good some bad, one teenage girl said my car is "too small". I smiled......

Funniest comment was while this guy and I looked at the rear air diffusers (SRT) this guy says, "man, factory windage trays to hug the road, that's awesome", haha, I may be way off base here, but thought the windage tray was in the oil pan. Some oil pans, evidently not my 97 pan from a recent thread.

They were having draws all day for various door prizes, and I grinned when I heard that the next ticket was getting a Viper ride in the 03. As soon as they pulled it out of the showroom, I fired up mine, ditched the carshow to find the 03 and see how she ran. (feeling confident from last weeks 1 run qualifier of 12.1 at Grand Bend Motorplex).

I find the car within a minute of prowling and creep beside him hoping for some action. (the driver is the plant manager at the Minivan plant where I work as well- Mike). Not sure if Mike was up to racing a car which I'm not sure he has driven before, let alone with a passenger with a lucky ticket number.

Mike gave a nice couple gear runs with I doing the same beside him, I motion to hit our expressway for some higher speed fun (the same expressway our police force had an APB out for MotorCityMadMan and I racing our cars up and down). He follows and had some more fun on the highway. The car pulls nice, we were side by side a few times, and seemed to hit it once at the same time, and things were somewhat neck and neck until the gearshift and then I pulled. This may have to do with my penchant for 5800 tugs with my foot still in the gas however...

Nonetheless I snapped up some pics while driving, how safe is that? I'll post them soon.

Miscellaneous ramblings on the SRT:

I can only assume that the PVO car in Windsor today was the "revised model" to address the lack of fender flare. To my quasi-trained eye (having been to CAAP numerous times, in the SRT at MIS, as well as auto shows, etc) I could not see any difference in the original auto show car that I decided against and bought my GenII.

Neon issue head unit looks out of place in the car, seems the speaker arrangement has improved over our GenII "tweeter at the knee theory" which seems to negatively affect anything over 5K

To those in the know, it is remotely amplified, correct?

In the showroom the cars lines seem masked and non-descript, on the road it looked much better. This thing seems to flip flop depending on photo angle, lighting, surroundings etc on the aggressiveness of the lines. While I realize the tricks an adept photographer can pull, it seems compounded with the SRT. Which also seems to fit with opposing camps of the board finding equally hideous or flattering photos to bolster their case!

345 rear over our 335 is a nice touch. Rims seems to draw from the Z06 a touch to my eyes.

Fit finish is marked improved over GenII, that's undeniably from whatever side of the fence one sits. The new "net, form, pierce" process is a marked improvement of the "glue, rivet, shim til it looks good" process of past. Progress in this area, hands down.

All in all a nice car. I see hints of so many cars looking at it, depending on angle, from the lowly Stratus to an XK8 in some angles. Now hints of the now-defunct Avenger haunt me with the rear "windage trays". I hope performance numbers eclipse our GenII by at least a couple tenths, sub 12's/4.0 from the mainstream mags would be nice. Let the VCA members do their magic and maybe 11.5ish/3.7ish would vindicate the styling debacle! I've decided Brunton will be the man to shatter records on delivery, any chance an 03 will run at the VOI drags this week? that would be nice.....

trying so hard to get along with the SRT, hope this didn't come off too entirely biased!

have fun this weekend at VOI gang, wish I was going to be there, booked an 8 day south american cruise today for consolation,haha....

any Vipers in Cartagana, Columbia?

Nice review, very expressive.

I'm sure that onlooker was using the term "windage trays" in a non-specific generic sense, not the way we use the term.

Either that, or he is all wet!

Yeah, I guess my Viper is no longer welcomed in Canada.

You lucky son of a gun, got to race against the new SRT-10 huh. Cool. Did a little racing of my own last night, but against some foreign competition. Have fun in Columbia, take plenty of pictures of the local talent.
