Looking to buy a radar detector this weekend & just wanted some input on which is the best to get.

I always thought they were nothing but false confidence, but there are few areas around me I know they would help.

Any input on name brands or specific model #s would be appreciated :)

Thanks -

most will attest to valentine one as the only real good radar detector. Do a search

I use it and would never drive without - saved me plenty of times

Have loved both of my Valentine One's for over 4 years.
Only one ticket to date (laser).
V1 did catch it...just not much warning on any laser signal, regardless of what "detector".
Most times you catch it from someone in front being hit...unless you passed ALL the other cars a few miles past...LOL

I've mounted my Valentine1 and my RX65 in the H2 and the RX65 detects better than the Velntine1, although not by much. However, the V1 has the patent on the directional arrows, and that is such a NICE feature that I miss in the other detectors (so you know if the cop is up ahead or coming onto the freeway behind you from an onramp.)

Everything I have read about the passport 8500X50 sound like it is the best detector on the market now. Those of us with V1's should be able to send our units in for an update once Valentine does a major change (they need to.)

BTW, I own 3 Valentine 1's, and just recently bought the RX65.

I like my V1. If I was buying a replacement today it would be a V1.

By the way,
I wouldn't buy any radar jammers. Some folks think they work, some swear they have seen them work but these are testimonials of non technical people. I can't say they aren't saying what they believe.
I can tell you this. I'm a retired electronics warfare guy. I worked with all kind of jammers for many years.
I know what it takes to jam a police radar.

I say that there is no legal equipment that will practically jam police radar.
If the device transmits a signal that jams police radar, it is against the law and the FCC will shut the company down. It's as simple as that.

There are devices that try to modulate the reflected radar signal. This technique can work and it isn't in violation of any FCC laws.
The problem is that for it to work you need a large reflector. It can't possibly fit in a little box.

Laser jammers can work and are not in violation of FCC law.

Ive got a k40 installed in my rt/10 but I have a v1 from my past cars and also owned a 8500. I can honestly say the V1 beats all of them hands down.
