Parts are painted at different locations, then need to come in together, assembled together, and hope that they match. Now they also have to make special storage arrangements (for the parts), clean the paint guns (empty and refill) and they only have a few, plus now hope that all of the parts are correct and fit right. Now imagine if just one part if bad? You halt your whole production because of one single part. Not exactly the way to keep things flowing.
This is only the build portion above. That does not take into account having to educate the warranty people that this color is original on a 2002. Now call up the I.T. team and explain how you need codes to come up on the build sheet and sticker.
It just seems like there is a never ending process to get this done. After every good news point you would hear "wait, we forgot this", and then it is back to the drawing board.
Also, you have to keep in mind that the process was never set up initially to handle "special" requests. And I never even mentioned all the other parts that now have to be designated for the special Viper. All those codes have to be somewhat altered and manipulated.
I could never even begin to fully explain all the issues that have and need to be addressed to pull off what appears to the public as a simple task, but knowing this group I would say that 99% would not want to deal with all of the red tape.
