Today was the first time I have had the car out since installing Random Technologies high-flow cats. My MAIN objective in doing this was to cool down the side sills.. the car already had the Corsa system w/stock cats.

The results?? A little but disappointed. Dont get me wrong, they helped a lot, for sure. But after taking the car out 45 minutes or so. The sills were very hot... The car does sound much nicer now, I must say.... Definately a worth while purchase. Those stock cats are cannons..

Whats my next step?? Anyone out there tried the Roe Side sill insullation kit, in addition to Random Tech H/F cats?? does it help enough to justify doing?? If so, Im in.......

Its not that I "can't handle" the heat at all... Im more concerned about damage to the side sills paint job, from long term exposure to these temps.. But since the car is already yellow. Hopefully wont be a problem.

I was trying to avoid going catless, 02 simms, etc., The ones I have heard are a little loud for my taste. Will probably give the insullation kit a shot.

I just had the Roe high flo cats and side sill insulation done on my car, and I previously had the Corsa cat back. Since I had the high flo's and insulation done at the same time, I can't say how much the insulation added. Howvever, I would say that generally I was expecting a bit more dramatic difference in side sill and cockpit temp than I have achieved. The sills are still burn your leg hot, and the cabin is still real warm. I'm sure it is better than it was, it would have to be. But don't expect any huge difference, it's just an incremental improvement. These cars are hot and there is just no way around it.

I found a more dramatic improvement with the Roe oval high flow cats than you two did.
I also have the Corsa cat back, and the new cats definitely cut the interior cockpit temps for me.

Factory stock, my side sills were blazing hot, and partially melted some of the rubber trim when my side sill insulation slipped down on one side.
After adding the high flow cats I can now touch the side sills with my hands (or legs when driving in shorts)and not worry about getting branded.

Plus with the cooler interior, my air conditioning is more effective, especially on 85+ degree days.

Did you guys get the bigger oval high flow cats, or the smaller round ones? I got the oval ones, and even though it was a tight fit, I ended up getting good results. :2tu:

I apologize for hijacking this post, however, we were at ****** Run road course two weeks ago. I saw a viper that had highflow cats catch on fire. A baffle in the cat came loose and blew back into the muffler and totally blocked the exhaust. The engine heat was so great it melted a hole in the cat and caught the side of the car on fire. The sill, door and interior of the car were damaged before the fire was put under control.

I have video's of the fire but would like to wait and make sure any insurance issues are taken care prior to posting the video. I guess the choice of a quality cat can be important. This cat was a round style about 12" long, I don't know the manufacturer.

remove the Randomtechs, go catless. ` I have the Corsa and had the Randoms as well. I removed them and went straightpipe.....man GIANT difference in temps. I would say its 30degress cooler. you could fry an egg on the sill before with the Randoms, now you could keep you hands on the sill without them getting uncomfortable.

Does the car run as well without the cats and having no backpressure? I was ready to go catless but was talked out of it - of course that person was selling the randomtechs along with the other exhaust components. He said the car needed the backpressure that the cats provided.
Thanks
Gary

There is no downside to less back pressure as long as the engine doesn't go lean because the fuel system can't keep up.No problem with the stock fuel system. GTS Bruce
