I have a 3" hennessey cat back or should I say no cat back system. I seem to throw flames out my tail pipe when I decelrate from a hard acceleration. Does anyone in here have a problem with the flames or high heat turning their rear bumper yellow? If so, what can we do to prevent it from turning yellow? I think I will have to eventually get it repainted again. The flames seem to go out about 2 feet and with the vacum behind the car..it pulls the flames upwards.

Is my only choice to put on high flow cats?

thanks

I believe you have to put cats on the Car - Give Sean Roe a call - folks seem to have a lot of luck with his high flow cats.
It will also get rid of the stink fuel smell.

Adam,
That too cool! I can't wait to see the flames come out and the end of the drags next friday. Wait until after the drags to put the cats on.

Had a buddy who ran his 98 GTS with strait pipes,no mufflers or catalytic comverter,it sounded awesome and shot 3 foot flames out the back, could best be seen at night as he lifted off the throttle at high rpms,he extended his exhaust tips a few inches to keep from cooking the rear, seemed to work for him,he would set his VEC1 to run rich for even more effect,VERY COOL.

When I was at Watkins Glen there was a Viper that had huge flame. It looked very cool even during the day. He told me that 98 and older Vipers have something that when you back off gas it sends very reach mixture in to your pipe. The newer Vipers can't do this.

I would highly recommend some ball park franks. They plump while you cook them on the flames

Wow flames, I would love to see that. Must help to keep the tailgaters off your back. If the Maguires works that would be sweet.

AB,
Are you running any headers?

I just put on a set of B&B 1 5/8 headers and cat back's with no cats and I also get the Flame thrower out the back at night.

Wind out a gear to 5500 RPM, leave it in gear, and let of the gas. You give the people next to and behind you a fireworks show, both audio and visual.

Ab,

I have the same problem as you do and have the same car color as well. Don't worry about it very simple to clean up the yellowing. This is what I do and use you may find other products that work as well but I don't know of any at the moment.

1. Wash entire car completely.
2. Get Meguires paint and body scrub liquid, its clear coat and wax safe. Apply it with a cloth and instantly start rubbing it in with the same cloth. You will see the yellowing disappear in front of your eyes. You may want to repeat the process 2-3 times, after which all they yellow build up will be gone.
3. Get any kind of car wax, and apply it on the rear bumper and affected areas.

At this point you are done and yellow free, just perform the process after a month or so of driving or if you are insane like my self you can do it after every hard drive. The more you do it the easier the yellow comes off.

Gentlemen,

Can we get some pics of these flame throwers?!

Maybe MM could add to his list of R&D products to make a Stainless Steel plate that could be installed to protect the affected area...Pics of the flames PLEASE!

nope. no headers yet.

I did try the mcguires, but I think the clear coat is turning yellow. Reminds me of the yellowing side sills. I will try to get some pics of these flames. Mine does it during the day and it's pretty noticable.

Excellent...

...What are the chances of hitting up a local fab shop to make you an attractive brushed aluminum or stainless plate to protect your paint in the area of concern...it could be mounted with 3M tape...wouldn't have to be very thick at all...you could even have them put rivets around the edges so it "appears" to be riveted on, but in fact, the same tape that attaches the Viper lettering and badges would be holding it in place...Two foot flames and an attractive custom plate to protect your paint would qualify you for the COOLEST VIPER OF THE DAY award!

Doesn't hennessey or someone sell a plate that goes back there on the bumper? I could swear I saw one somewhere. I am running a no resonator, no cat, Borla headers setup on my car. I was looking when I was concerned about the same problem. I know I found the plate somewhere, it was kinda pricey for me though. I was going to try a VEC1 from Roe Racing and custom extended tips to help with the smell and flames. My car is blue though and it really hasn't shown anything yet, so I haven't worried about it too much.
