I "painted" two black stripes on the parking lot ... and recognized that only the inner half of the rear tires make the marks!
Any ideas?

Tell the Mustang to move aside and you'll show him how it's done.

Ha, Ha, Ha, Sorry I had to do it.

No ideas here.

No expert here but would say alignment and tire pressure. Your alignment may be more set up for the track, corners better.

Two quick thoughts: How old are your tires? If they are new then the entire tread may not have good contact witht the ground due to negative camber. If the tires aren't new then perhaps you were driving directly over and parallel to a crown in the road. Recently changing to lowered Eibach springs would also have the same effect.

Now I have another good reason to do a parking lot burnout! "Officer, I was just checking my rear wheel alignment..."

Like mentioned above, I would tend to believe your camber is off a little or set more for a track setup.

I just lowered my RT and the camber was off, when I had it aligned I had it set up with a little more positive camber to handle better in the turns. I am no expert but I believe this makes the wheels lean in a little, not necessarily visible to the eye.

Looks like you have a slight negative camber in the rear...which is good....better cornering power. Negative camber is when the top of the tire leans in towards the center of the vehicle . Positive camber is not good for cornering

Mine lays a fairly wide track, I'd check the tire pressure and its worth getting an alignment at a well recommended shop. think about it, $150 to $250 for an alignment could save thousands of miles on $1500 tires, its money in the bank.

>>>Mine lays a fairly wide track...<<<

I know. My GTS laid down rubber over the whole width of the rear tires also.

I will check the alignment! And the tire pressure, since the car has been at the dealership for installing HF cats, doing the service, etc...

always check your pressure with the tires "cold" (room temp) before heading out. these tires are too expensive not to maintain them properly and the handling of the car does change when air pressure is not where it should be.

good luck with the alignment, make sure to update us on the results. keep posting pictures, I use them as my backgrounds regularly because the scenery is so awesome.

Which tires do you have? Some tires ( such as Mich PS2) have different coumpounds on the inner half of the tread for wet tracktion.

I have Pilot Sports and it appears from the picture that he does too (look at the tread).

As the car squats leaving the line the suspension bows outward which is why dragracers set the camber slightly positive.

For everything else, negative camber. Being a street car I would leave it negative.

Thanks for all the useful answers. I have checked the last alignment (June 2005) protocol:

rear left -0°29' rear right -0°30' (camber)
rear left +0°06' rear right +0°06' (track)

Nevertheless, I will have the aligment checked in mid of May.
