Yesterday I posted a link to a 2008 ACR that was wrecked but for sale on eBay. A mod deleted my post kind of sited some rules regarding eBay links. Yet I see links to eBay all the time...and they are not owners posting their own link. What is with the censorship when I certainly was not trying to sell the car. More like advising against it.

Why was my thread deleted yesterday? We were discussing how expensive it would be to rebuild an ACR (especially that one). Some had asked for the story about the Roanoke car...then magically the post was deleted.

What gives?

CarDude,

I posted that same viper from the autotrader add 3 weeks ago. They took it down because the seller isn't a paid advertiser, and sent a PM stating that. If you want to continue your post you need to just show the pictures, not a link to the seller. Or you can comment to the on-going link in the alley

I hope you don't get suspended. That Roanoke car was one I purchased and was talking about the employee price minus the 20K. All post were deleted and I was suspended.

Why do posts get deleted? Other forums just close the topic, not delete.

Are you suggesting we leave the thread topic in place and just delete the actual thread? As a bookmark of where the thread was prior to deletion?

Thank you Dave, for those who did not open his link this is what it said, posted by me regarding another issue like this.

"A clarification, with exceptions. EBay ads should not be pasted in unless the ad is ALSO in our classifeds. Putting an ad in for a VCA member is free, but we ask them to do it anyway as it keeps a level playing field for the guys who are not VCA and have to pay $30 for an ad.
This site survives on advertising revenue so we are pretty tight abbout it.
We particularly don't like ebay ads of Vipers from dealers who are not site supporting vendors.
Now for the exceptions, someone posting as zilla did was only trying to help the membership with a part that is out of production, indeed there is another thread almost next to it discussing the need, so we TRY and behave as if we are not rabid deleters and work with some semblance of logic...no harm, no foul, ino real revenue from the site to be gained (we always contact the folks who have the stuff deleted and we have gained a ton of advertisers that way) indeed maybe an advantage to the readers here in this case so it stays."

There's another rule that several of you should pay attention to..
"Posts asking why a post was removed, and posts asking why a warning/strike/ban was or was not issued to a user will be subject to deletion. If a post was removed, a moderator felt it violated one of the policies."

CarDude, everyone understands you were not trying to profit or refer that in for a friend, or do we? How are we to know the dealer is not a buddy or the owner of the car is not a buddy?
Take your word for it? Would some guys lie about that to help a friend avoid a $30 ad? I dunno.
But the hard facts are there's no way to tell.
What I DO know is that the Moderator completely informed you regarding the situation and you are out of line bringing it up per the rule below above. If that Mod requested action against you at this point it would be justified.
Jim Chris you are out of line also sneaking in what you mentioned regarding the situation you were suspended for, that's really pushing it.
And Deam if you read before you post you won't have to ask.
There are some easy Ebay situations like the Dolphin car that fall into what I call, "It's so ugly no one is trying to make money off it, they are just making fun of it" And those we try to leave.
This one is borderline and because it is it was removed. Simple as that.
Enforcing this rule is the hardest thing to judge for us right now so we could make it a lot simpler to understand if we just said no links at all for EBay ads, REGARDLESS of whether someone is trying to do a good deed or not.
And we may just start discussing that as a rules change.

No that doesn't explain it. I had question as to who's car it was etc... I was not in an way shap or form trying to sell a car. On the contrary, it was over priced and we were discussing the inability to repair it since it had serve damage to virtual every body panel (including all ACR parts).

I understand when they see a true advertisment...but this was most certainly not. I paid for Venom due last year, purchased two new Vipers, and bought multiple raffle tickets from the club. What else can I do to support VCA and this website? I will not follow blindly, when something is wrong I think we shoudl discuss it...plain and simple.

You posted before I finished writing my dissertation, hopefully you understand now after reading it.
We appreciate your tenure here, that's why the Mod explained it to you when it was removed and hopefully you understand that there is no way to know whether someone is trying to leverage a free sale here, I don't think you were, and I don't think the mod who removed it thinks so, BUT there is no way to know for sure, please realize that. It happens all the time, believe me, and the guys will always say I don't have anything to do with that car.

As to the thread regarding the "Lowest priced srt in the country" that someone else complained about is still being up, it was left up as the auction was already ended and the car was sold, and at that price no moderator assumed we would ever see it listed again, so it was left for the benefit of other readers.
No longer an effective ad when it showed up here, just general information.

And I say again, we can continue to try and discriminate between someone trying to have free advertising here OR we can simply ban ALL EBay ads.
We are doing our best to walk the line, but continual re posting about a removal AFTER it has been explainedi privately will probably lead us to just ban all ebay ads.
It's not worth the effort once an explanation has already been made privately to have a guy come back and repost questioning a mods decision.
Try questioning the mods on other sites and see if it you get the same explanatory approach you receive here. It would have been real easy to just push the delete button on THIS thread, and that's what the rules actually say we are enabled to do.
