Does anyone have any information on installing a remote door opening system for a Gen 1? I'm thinking of getting a window upgrade for weather-proofing and security issues and was wanting to look into this option as well as locking after-market windows. Any advice greatly appreciated!

So here are the pictures I took.
Hope they help.

These are the two holes I drilled for the solenoid.

It's much easier to put the bolts that way otherwise you will have problems to insert the nuts with the solenoid in place.

As mentioned in the illustrated upgrade, I also ran the ground wire through the rubber flex tube inside the car. Really easy to do with a coat hanger.

Concerning the connection with the TWS receiver, someone in the feedback of that illustrated upgrade mentioned that NAPA has an insert that works (part #784507, 5 pieces for $3.42). I haven't found it so I took one of those connectors you usually use to connect two wires together (the one that are cylindrical). I removed the insulator and kept the piece of metal that is inside. I connected one side to my wire and I filed the other side till it could enter in the TWS receiver. If I remember well, you have a blue plastic thing on the receiver to hold the wires in place. You can remove it and put it back once your new connector is ready and fits in the hole. You have to insert the connector all the way inside to be sure to make a proper contact, so don't file only the tip of the connector, but on it's whole length and don't make it to thin so that it's tight in the whole. Well, I hope it makes sense.
Let me know if you need more info.
It took me more than one hour like it's said in the illustrated upgrades. Maybe 3 but I really took my time. But definitely one of the best mod you can do to a Gen1. You won't regret it!

I'm trying to get this work. Do you have a pic of the mounting point? We have a '93 and believe the door assembly might be a bit different than the more current years.

Thanks

alright, i sent an email with pics and a description of how i did the door poppers to Il96RT10 and Lexciting. Ivory, i did mine on a 94 viper, so the mounting points may be similar to yours. if you send me your email, i can send you the same email as well. i had a hard time following the vca directions, and my directions may help you figure it out!
good luck all... let me know if you need help with it!

A further question for the people with Gen 1 cars who've had this mod done along with windows. Is there a back-up plan for getting into the car if the battery goes flat?

Fortunately, I didn't have that problem... but I had Jeff Lemke's 3-piece hardtop with sliding window, so I could easily get myself in if needed.

If the battery dies, you can still open the hood and jump start the car and then disarm the alarm to open the door. I don't think it's a problem. But for safety, you can still install the switch (the one that you get with the door popper kit) somewhere in the trunk and you run one wire to a good 12V source (the battery is not far) and connect the other one to the wire between the TWS receiver and the door popper. Like that, even if your TWS receiver dies, you will still be able to open your door.
