You don't have to cut anything to remove the muffler.
Remove the sill cover, unbolt the header pipe from the
manifold and pull it out. Then you can cut what ever
you want off, but you'll have to put something in place
of the mufflers or cats because you still have to get the
exhaust to the exit at the back of the sill cover. I think
it must be a bear trying the get the exhaust tips to point
outward at the correct place and angle when fabricating.

You better have torches, and a wire fed welder. Put in the Dynamax bullets and Roe's high flow cats. You can listen to the stereo at cruise, however, under acceleration the sound is very nice.

You basically cut out everything between the exhaust collector (to rear of 90) and the outlet pipe of the muffler. Size everything, tack it together, remove it and seam weld everything. You also need 1/2" dowel stock to fabricate/reuse your stock hangers. If you are interested I have pic's of my (94)conversion. It pulls a consistant 405 rwhp on engine and 550hp/750 ft lbs on nos.

richc22,you might want to replace the cat and mufflers at the same time. I am replacing the cats (with high flow cats) and mufflers (with belanger exhaust) on my 94. I got all of my parts from JonB. I took off one of the sills today and thought I would cut just in front of the cat, use a 2.5 to 3 inch adapter to connect from the header pipe to the 3 inch cat. I would clamp all the parts (cat, muffler, and chrome tip) and refit the sill to assure proper fit. I would then tack weld all of the joints and make sure all of the clamps were tight. I thought that would be it. But one of the replies mentioned removing the pipe from the header. I looked and there are I think two bolts with springs. This might make the job easier! How hard is it to remove the exhaust from the header pipe and then reattach. Is it a pain and will my plan work just as well? Any thoughts?

thanks

Welding on the car is out of the question. Yes, unbolting
the two nut on each side is all it takes. Then pull the
whole assembly straight out from the car off the two
hangers. This can even be done with the car on the ground.
I guess the clever way to swap out parts would be to remove
the factory assembly and make a jig and then piece the other
parts in. Sounds like a good home shop project, but might
be pricey at a **** shop.
