I want to replace the side decals on my car. The factory ones are silver, but I want black ones to set off my orange. How difficult is it to take these off (prep, liquids to use) and where is the best place to order some new black ones?

Thanks

I would suggest that you get the real decals from a Dodge dealer or you can get them from me also so it doesn't look cheesy. IMHO

Whatcha looking for Dave? Rainbow colored 'Dodge' to replace your white ones? :D

No. Just trying to qualify why professionally cut vinyl using the exact pattern that Dodge uses would be cheesy. If the factory decal is multi-color that however cinches that deal, as machine cut vinyl is not multi-color unless they stack it. Which is cheesy.

A little installation tip for re-aligning the new decal...

Carefully go around the old one with 2" wide blue tape. Just square up the boundaries with 4 straight edges.

Then go around that with another row of tape outside of the first one.

Remove the first one so that you don't melt the tape glue with the hair dryer.

Once the old decal is off run the inside tape row again and fit the new decal inside of it.

It would help to have the car on a lift at face level to get the lines straight etc.

Actually, if you go to a shop that can print on vinyl, you would be surprised how well it can come out. We have a printer that not only cuts the vinyl, but prints at 1440x1440 dpi-basically photo quality. Most shops don't have one as they are serious $$$ to buy and set up. What colors are you looking for? Maybe we can send you a gift.

Hi Brian. I would LOVE it if I could get a print out of the decal I posted. I am trying to finalize my viper(said that before) and I want the silver and red combo. It will match my wheels and calipers very well. My stock black ones dont look good on my black viper. What would it take for you to send 2 of them?

The only machine I am familiar with for printing is the Gerber Edge which if my memory serves me right was like 300dpi. Sounds like that is old news maybe? :dunno:

I've been looking for the Black side ones for my Viper too. I have black painted stripes on my red convert. The rear letters have been changed out to the black also. But for some reason the previous owner didn't do the sides. Must have been because they are $250!!

If you want to stick with the stock 3-D look you can purchase 2 sets of emblems and mix them. I pulled the stock silver emblems off my '06, and used a black Viper emblems along with the red SRT. It's the way a yellow w/ black stripe car should have come from the factory IMHO. BTW, I sold the remaining 'mirror image' decals to recoop some of the $$.

Sorry about the foreground, it's the only recent pic I have showing the emblems, but you get the idea.

We have a vinyl plotter as well and would be happy to cut some for you. The only thing is the OEM decals have a raised or bubble-effect on the decal giving it some dimension. The regular vinyl can be cut to match perfectly but will not have the doming effect. May be easier to get the OEM if you want them exact. If not, I can help. Just PM me.

Have you thought about painting the decales. I want to paint mine from Silver to SSG. I do think however that I need to buy new and paint before I put them on the car. Has anybody done this???

Mine are at the painter as I type this. I hope to have them back early next week. I will post pics once I have them in my hands.

I purchased new decals from the dealer. They are expen$ive to say the least. According to my body shop guy, you can peel the logos off the car and reuse them as long as you use the correct adhesive when putting them back on.

Anyone know where you can get a good "Supercharged" decal in black script to go under my side emblems (Viper RT-10)? Supercharging the car and would like to put something like that underneath.

Roland makes the printer-the machines start at $15,000 and go way up from there-I have one in my shop. I know the company well as my Dad *** employee #3 back in the early 70's-they started out making keyboards/effects. The owner is still a family friend who lives in Japan.

I have a Roland VersaCamm that has the ability to print and cut. The red is the only "weak area" on printing. It would be better to cut from red vinyl.

Here are a few examples of the "supercharged" script. I like the 2nd one the best.
