restrictive factory catalytic converters

what is the most economic way to upgrade air flow in and the exhaust system out .2001 viper needs more flow .i do not want it to loud .going to trade up next year would still like to get this baby to run better

K&N filters, smooth tubes, high flow cats. Cheapest and easiest improvement in air flow.

factory cats are EXTREMELY restrictive.

after i took mine off, i looked into one end of the cat, and pointed the other end directly at the sun. the smidgion of light that was visible, was a little bigger than the size of that -------> .

If you replace the cats or completely remove them, what type performance gains can you expect? I know its gonna be lots louder (I already dont have a muffler). Also, how will gas mileage be affected?
