Keith from Dublin Dodge just called.

He said the factory's position on the side-sill yellowing was that if they've repainted it once, that I should take it back to the place I originally had it painted. (That would be petaluma dodge, in my case--almost 2 hours away on a good day--ugh)

He also said that they have ordered the 999 parts for me.

The tool (rivet tool?) used in the recall is on back order, he said.

This being a 5-star dealer, is there any nice way I can get them to reconsider my side-sills?

It seems illogical to me that I would need to take the car back to a different dodge dealer. What if I had got them done in Nebraska??

But Tomer--it's so far away! That's like...across the bridge!

I'd rather develop a positive relationship if I can.

I can hit this place with a rock from my balcony at work! It would be really nice if we could work it out.

So--here's my plan. I've got a call into Chuck Tator for advice, number one.

Number two, I'm calling Autoworld Chrysler in Petaluma, as they asked me to. Perhaps Autoworld can convince THEM to do the work. Who knows...stranger things have happened.

If these guys stay stubborn, I'll do the redwood city thing.

I wouldn't mind a few high speed passes on the bridge anyway---YEAH RIGHT! (maybe in 1991)

If the process did not involve adding some heat-protection:

a) Primed inside and out with VHT-1500 Paint
b) Hi-Flow COOL cats lower temps 80-100 degrees
c) vent the sills so convection helps when heat-soaking

If not, then the discoloration will return. Even if Barris Customs painted em. Its NOT the painter's fault.

Silver / Yellow / White / Steel-grey cars are DOOMED to cat-caused sill discoloration eventually. Even 96-6 Blue is at risk.

The recall...ahh we will call it a book...that I got ahold of today said...quote: ALL(all being underlined) Chrysler and Dodge dealers previously recieved ONE (1) w-ak175ach power set riveter, free of charge, thru Pentastar Service Equipment (PSE)in December 1998......they also got a power set riveter tool nose piece, free of charge, in April 2002. Have they checked with all the mechanics to see if somebody has it stashed, not uncommon at all. Hopefully they are not just putting you off.

I totally agree, Jon--and anyhow, I did pay for the VHT hi-temp. That is to say, _I_ paid. It was like 200 dollars extra, but I did it. If I hadn't, would they be telling me that it's MY fault now--that I should have? Sheesh. Dodge needs to clean up their mess.

This doesn't have to be a big deal.

I just want to keep the car perfect, that's all.
