--When 'that dealer' takes a car in, they run their finger around each wheel. They do a complete walkaround. They keep a log sheet. They have 12 car covers, and rope-off Vipers when not in service. They keep these records so that there are no belated disputes.
Any 'scratch' deep enough to bend the wheel would be noticable instantly. I suspect a pothole got you sometime in your wheel's life, and not a scratch.
The wheel can likely be 100% safe for $120-$150. I would seek a pro-installer...there are 2 in Portland OR area that help the VCA. Are you a VCA member? Attend a meeting and learn the scoop!
Also.....an excellent take-off wheel is readily available to you or the dealer for way under $500. [A certain honest and passionate Viper Guy who sells Viper parts, new and used. You can pick it up at PIR and go for a lap or two.]
