did it, not impressed. stick with mobil 1 synthetic. unless you are a diehard racer on road course after road course, its not worth it. i do my oil change every 2500-3000 miles and at that frequency, mobil 1 is every bit as good

Ran the race 30 Weight and actually used more oil with Royal Purple. It seemed pretty good in the Miata, but can't say I believe there is any magical
benefit , so I would just stick with the Mobil 1.

I have no idea if the oil is any good, but I do have a funny Royal Purple story I heard from a very reliable source years ago.

The secret to Royal Purple is it's chock'o'block full of additives. Additives which bond to the metal parts in the engine when the additives get hot (remember hot, it's important). An important part of Royal Purple's marketing was racing. Specifically, they began with drag racing. However, at one event, a Royal Purple sponsored car blew a motor. Not terribly unusual in drag racing except this car spewed oil all over the track. Guess what happened when that hot oil hit the asphalt? Yep, the slickery stuff bonded to the asphalt. The sanctioning body was really upset. They had to go out with blow torches to burn the stuff off. After that, Royal Purple sponsored cars ran purple oil, but without additives.

That's a true story? Funny. Weird.

There was a detailed review of the steps in building a drag engine in Street Rod? magazine about 8 months ago. They made dozens of changes in the engine and would dyno the engine multiple times after each change. All the data was then compiled in a table.

This was a large cubic inch/low rpm engine like the viper. At about the 450-500 hp level they made one simple change, a different oil, Royal Purple. I believe they gained eight hp. This individual engine builder indicated this was his secret way to extract 8-10 hp from any high hp engine.

I started running it after I read a couple of very good testimonials on this board. I have run it for about two years. About a year each on a Gen 1 and a Gen 2. Like everyone I change oil frequently. The interesting point is that I have never seen any type of metallic particle matter on the magnetic drain plug, zero. In both of my cars at the time of the first oil (pre Royal Purple)change I found small amounts of metal particle matter.

Well duh. That's because Royal Purple eats small amounts of metallic particle matter.
Even I know that - and I don't know anything. Heh-heh.
