RT/10 at dragstrip

[Andy 98 RT/10]

I just got a 98 RT/10 in december which I absolutely love.

I have been thinking about taking it to the nearest dragstrip (Milan Dragway), but I only have the soft-top for my car, no hard top.

Will they have a problem letting me race with just the soft top?

If I order a hardtop, will I be allowed to race it at any strip?

I run my RT/10 top on and top off at Milan. No problem. Though each time I ran it was when the track was rented out. Not sure if they have different rules during normal times.

Soft top shouldn't be a problem. ALot of convertibles race..

I hear Milan is really crowded now that Detroit Dragway is closed.

How far are you from Lapeer / Lapeer Dragway?

I'm west of Pontiac 20 miles and 50 miles for either strip but plan on hitting Lapeer soon . PM me if you want

The NHRA rules stipulate that convertibles without a rollbar cannot run faster than 14.0. The gray area is whether or not the track officials (or techs) determine that the R/T10's sport cap is indeed a rollbar.

Most likley you can get away with running down to 12.0 with the soft top on, but it does come down to the particular track, and day.

I've only run with my hardtop on and during grudge night I was warned when I nipped into the 11s, but I recently went on a Test & Tune day where the more experienced drivers run, and I made 6 runs in the 11s without any warnings.

The hardtop brings about less scrutiny, but I think that you will be fine with just the soft top.

I went to Milan on Friday the 7th, and they were fine with letting me run. I saw a Red/White stripe GTS as I was leaving that day...anyone here?

I didn't think the track conditions were very good, they had an oil spill earlier there, but in general the track felt kind of slick.

A little off topic but I saw Milan Dragway listed here and thought you might want to all konw that The American Super Car Challenge is coming to Milan on June 12th.

This is your chance to race heads up with/against Corvettes.

There are four classes.
11.50 class (can't run quikcer than 11.50)
10.50 class
9.50 class with stock suspension/trans
Modified for unlimited action modifeid suspension/trans.

This is a great FUN event and if I see a commitment from some Vipers for the 11.50 class, I will make the 600 mile trip from NJ.
