How do I remove the shift knob? Not the shift shaft, the knob only…is there a nut on top of the knob number the gear indicator?

There is no nut under the number plate. The knob is molded on the shaft. It is held on under the shift boot with a jam nut. I won't tell you how I know this, but lets just say it involved air tools, cutting, and cursing.

Tremec Shifter Knobs - JEGS

I got the white one. I dig a classic white knob in an American muscle/sports car.

The one in the pic is the one I just installed last week on my '03 and I love it!!! It's from MGW of course, but gives much better feel over the stock one. Worth every penny!!!

Used the MGW Gripper in my 05 and my 06 Snakes, and really liked it. Another alternative is the MGW First Strike, which I'm using on the 09 ACR (I have the MGW shifter in that one, and the combination is just about perfect for me).

Nice, the MGW shift knob would go nicely, since I have many of the other interior pieces offered by them.

I have a '98 RT/10, so what is involved in installing this shift knob...is it easy or is there lots of work and cursing to do so?:omg:

Thanks.

I installed the MGW first strike in my 98 GTS about a month ago. It could not have been any easier. All you need to do is slide the boot down to expose the jam nut, loosen the jam nut, un-thread the stock Knob. Reverse procedure to install. I believe it took me 5-10 minutes max. :2tu:

Shift Knob Removal
- push the shift boot down over the shift knob locking nut
- use the 3/4" crescent wrench on the locking nut and the adjustable crescent wrench on the shift knob to break them apart
- unscrew the shift knob

Just installed the MGW gripper shift knob on my 95 RT. Good piece of gear. What is the best way to get the shift boot back over the jam nut and onto the base of the shift knob?

thanks :dunno:

It's been a while, but I think that I remember using some very small headed screwdrivers and a little force...it's a very tight fit.

Or you can PM me and i can shorten your stock shifter. I started a thread about it awhile back. It is for gen 2, but im sure i could do a gen 3 as well. There are pictues in the thread. Its just a bummer you ruined your stock one before you messaged me. Search Factory Short Shifter
