Getting ready to Install my Motons and was reading up on the procedure in my service manual to remove and replace the coilovers.I know that the sway bar links ave to be disconnected, but for the sake of this thread I omitted the other stuff.

For the front it seems rather straight forward. Unbolt the originals, Bolt up the new ones.

The rears are different. Unbolt the originals, snake them out through the control arms after you remove the plug in the rear tub for clearance. Reinstalling them however seems more complex. If I understand the manual correctly, bolt up the new ones LOOSELY, lower the car down on the tires roll back and forth to get the suspension settled, then tighten everything to spec.

Am I reading this correctly? If so, does the car have to be on the wheels of can I simply lower my car so the rear control arms are jack stands and then tighten things down. That way I dont have to work around a tire. The archives don't really address this either.:dunno::dunno:

thanks
Steve A.

I've don't it three times and I already have the car on jack stands. I then jack up on the lower control arm and then tighten everything. Like you said, nothing in the way, and it is the same difference as lowering the car on the ground

When I changed out a control arm, I measured the center of the wheel to the fender lip(with car on ground), then when torquing the bushings with the car in the air, I put a jack under the lower control arm till the center of the hub was that distance.
