I have an 02 RT/10 with the following mods.

Smooth tubes & filters
Corsa cat back exhaust
Honeycomb metal substrate Cats ( Thanks John @ Parts Rack )
Installed at RSI (Thanks Jason)

My question is, what are the pro's & Cons of installing headers. I know there will be an increase in HP but I do not know how much. Belanger headers are about 2,000 & install about 340.00 at RSI.

Is it worth the money??

Thanks

Andy

If i could afford it, i would have a complete B&B setup with TriY headers.
If you can swing it.. do it.

I too am getting belanger headers, random tech cats, and corsa. Why do you suggest the above combo? What makes it better than the combo I was thinking about getting?

Thx Mark

I did the full Bellanger tri-y header/3" catback and the Randomtech hi-flows on my '00, dynoed it 3 days apart on the same dyno, SAE #s came back 31 more RWHP and 40 more RWTQ

The only gain you will get is in the sound on a 02. I put them on my 01 & 02, Hi-flow cats and Corsa and all I got on the dyno was a whopping 424 RWhp.I was so pissed that I had to put a Roe supercharger on the ***** ACR. So the answer is NO.

I'm surprised there was no gain on an '02 or any Viper for that matter.

Headers have seemed to help all cars - especially with cats and exhaust system upgrades.

HP that can be purchased for ~$50/hp are a deal. Headers are more expensive than that so you may want to consider other options first. Lighter wheels, while not directly improving HP effectively increases HP because less HP is required to turn the rotating mass which makes it available for acceleration.

Yes, if you're going to supercharge it.

No, if you're NOT going to supercharge it. 3.55 gears would be a much more practical choice.

My lumpy-cam seems to like the headers. It depends on your goals I would guess. Your engine is a big air pump and headers (and exhaust) are key to opening up the discharge side of the equation. If you make changes to the intake side of the equation (cam, rocker arm ratio change, K&N's plus smooth tubes, forced induction...) then you will likely benefit from the exhaust change and in some cases you will cap the benefit of intake changes without them.

Florida,
I am wrestling with the same question regarding headers.
I asked Sean Roe and he said I would probably gain 25 rwhp.
And this is on a S/C car.
When I dyno it I will compare my numbers to vipers with headers and my set up and decide then.

If you don't have mod feaver yet, chanches or it will happen. I have the Belanger headers comming soon, and I know I will not gain that much from them but who knows the feaver is on the increase, so you will need the headers sonner or later because the aducation only gets worse.

I guess this leads to my next question. Yes, I too now have the mod fever. I already have everything MGW makes, now its time to get serious.. I have been following all the blower posts from Sean to Jason to DLM. & I am torn between a blower & just letting RSI preform the 650HP kit on my car. With either one I am sure I would ned the headers but it might be a little while before I can sink that much into the car. This "kit" has no blower & is mainly head, cam, & exhaust work Would'nt it be better for the engine to have this work instead of a blower if I am looking for around 650hp?? The blower is definately cheaper than the Kit.

RON- I noticed you have a 68 camaro in your sig, nice to see a few of them still around.

The newer Viper's have a better header than the pre 98s from the factory so that is why we don't see much HP gain from new headers. Save your money until you need them. I also still get Check engine light on cold day starts.
