Had a thought last night, clear that is dangerous when it comes to me.

I picked up a 93 red gen I Bburago a few weeks ago, very clean but not mint in box.

Thought if I can pick up a Gen II GTS (all I see in 1:18), I could change out the hood for the gen II as well as change out the side pipes for the later look. Here's an example, has gen II hood, wheels and exhaust valance.

Few questions (never took them apart):

-Do they come apart easily?
-What do I do about head/tail lights, do they pop out or do I try to tape. Same for door panels and windshield.

I see that some of you take them apart to customize. I'm pretty handy, so should be able to do this.

Would repaint red, and have a gen II RT/10. Figure also, I could take off the GTS wheels and swap them as well.

I know it won't be perfect, earlier interior, but it would be much closer.

Thoughts.

You'd need to get out the dremel with a small cutting blade because the side sills and rear bumper are a fixed part of the entire frame.
Head/tail lights can be left alone, they are just about the same. You also need to change out the front bumper because gen 2 slightly differs from gen 1 in that regard. Dash is the same as RT/10 with Burago so that does not really need to be switched. Hood only has one screw but I don't know if the GTS hood will line up with the other RT body panels directly.
When you're done, get the color code for Viper Red, take it to a body shop and see if they will also work on scale models (prep and paint). The one in my area did :D

Thanks, great info.

Look what I found while surfing online. Have no idea where it is, think maybe its in Japan. But, apparently, Bburago made a black 1:18 1998 RT/10. That would be much easier, disassemble and paint body parts red and re-assemble.

Of course, that assumes I could ever find one and it was affordable. I am not a big collector so, for me, my money is better suited in performance mods for my RT.

Going to search the attic and see if I have anymore 1:18 Vipers sitting around in boxes. If I do, it will make it easier for me to play without having to buy more....wife, you know.:nono:

Thanks again.

By the way, is there an easy way to get the wheels off. Are they just pressed in like many car models?

Thanks.

Yup, just use gentle pressure as to not break apart the soft plastic of the suspension and you're good to go :headbang: I think I can see a bit of the side exhaust tip in that picture right in front of the rear wheel, to my knowledge Burago never produced side exhaust-less RT's.

Cool on the wheels, thanks.:2tu:

On the black "98" that is what I thought....which makes this just another gen I black Bburago.

But.....went to the attic a little while ago and here is what I found, sadly, no more 1:18's. But, have three 1:24's in pretty nice shape - white/blue stripe, white wheels RT/10, Black/silver stripe RT/10 and blue/white stripe GTS.

I'm looking at them now and looks like most of the work is done already - the white RT/10 is a 96 Maisto, so no side pipes and later interior in black. The wheels on all three are actually the gen II wheels, so I can swap out the frames or change the white wheels out. The hood off the GTS is a gen II, so with some hocas pocas, I can come up with a car pretty similar to my 1998 RT/10.:headbang:

My only problem is that I have to ruin three Vipers to make one. I always thought that the black with silver stripe 95/96 was pretty rare, similar to the real one.:dunno:

Any thoughts? Seems much easier than killing myself to build a 1:18 and have to ruin my other 1:18's.

Besides, wife said no more buying!:nono:

To continue.....uh oh, just checked manufacturer and the blue/white stripe GTS and black/silver stripe is Bburago. So, the hoods won't fit and/or are mounted differently and the gen II body (no side pipes, rear exhaust) is Maisto.
