So I am walking into work today and see a white with blue stripes gts parked in the lot next to 2 beat up pos cars. 96 0r 97 sharp looking car.

short time later the owner shows up. nice enough guy but totally clueless as to what he is driving.
his reason for driving it: he wanted a car faster than his wifes vette.

he didn't even know how many cu in the engine was, no idea of the horsepower, nothing.

he says its a semi daily driver.
I offered him to park in my reserved spot but he decided it was to far to walk as it is "chilly out". ***. happy to leave his car will it will get dinged and bashed.

how can someone own a car like this and not care about it?
he said he has owned the car for 2 years, never heard of the VCA, doesn't mind parking it god only knows where. I wanted to puke listening to this guy.

I should have known some thing was wrong as he was carrying a man bag.

i wouldn't but whatever floats your boat.

some might say, he's enjoying his car more than you are.....

I bet it's faster than his wife's vette..... What more could a man want??

Kidding, of course.

Doesn't bother me a bit. I like seeing vipers on the road and out of the garage.

90 percent of NJ drivers are like this. I have just given up on them. They don't have any idea what is going on. They put stickers on their cars and that makes them faster or more impressive. Never go to gatherings as they are too busy, etc.

Don't worry. He won't have the car for long. He will wreck it within the next year.

Well said. My friend that just bought the Lotus Elise daily drives it, could care less about the miles, could care less about wear and tear. His theory is that he gets to enjoy it every day, it's insured and he'll only take a few thousand dollar hit on the mileage at the end of owning it. I care for my car and have anxiety everywhere I go that someone is going to hit it, scratch it, spit on it, steal it, etc...I only put on 3500 miles a year but plan on owning it for a long time. I guarantee that my friend is "enjoying" his car more than me because he is not so uptight about owning it. I feel like Cameron from Ferris Bueller every time I take my car out!

Sadly, almost all awesome cars fall from grace at some point through the passage of the years and the effects of depreciation. A lot of people who didn't have access to the Viper before, do now, and this sort of thing will become increasingly common. I have actually seen the unthinkable--a couple of slightly beat up Vipers with somewhat uninspired drivers transitioning to something else. I still sweat every rock chip, fluid change, and swirl mark, but to some its just an old 90's sports car.:(

Yes, I am going to wash my mouth out with soap...

Its all about what makes you happy at the moment.

When I've done alot of track time and the fascia is pocked up and the front of the sills sandblasted, I drive it around and don't worry about another rock chip.

When I go ahead and paint the fascia and sills, scratchX, buf and wax it twice, I worry about the next chip but really feel good about it looking great.

Each one has its time.....and both are enjoyable in their own way.

I don't think it has anything to do with the car itself. Some people love and really care about their cars while others don't. It can be a $10,000 car or a $500,000 car.

On second review of this thread I find it hard to believe nobody jumped on the man purse the guy was carrying....

Also, I'd like revise my previous post. I do like seeing vipers out on the road but if the guy was tired of it or didn't know what he had... I wish he'd sell to someone who will take better care of it.

To go with the man-purse observation:

Perhaps he was undercover for the "Bait Car" series, trying to make those around him think he was a *****-boy newb no-nothing about a very valuable car in an effort to entice a true Viper enthusiast to ***** slap him to the ground, take the keys and bring the car to a good and proper home.:rolaugh:

It's his perogative to use and abuse his own car. Not everyone gets starstruck by cars. At least he didn't paint dolphins on it.
