I swear that all CEOs need to have their sanity checked.
These guys (and gals) are doing stuff and saying things that mentally-fit people just don't do or say.
What has skewed their reality so badly?

Warren Miller once said, "If you put a camera in front of someone, their IQ immediately drops 100 points."
From all indications thus far, the same theory proves true when you put "Automaker CEO" on someone's business card.

>>>Marchionne apparently envisages the two brands as sharing a common identity. "Dodge is the American muscle car, while Alfa Romeo is the European muscle car," he says.<<<

He clearly thinks we are all idiots.

In the back of his mind this is what is happening:
No one will know the difference, they will just think the companies came out with new cars...

Will those Alfa badges be bolted on? Can they be un-bolted? You could replace them with Viper badges purchased from your favorite American Viper parts supplier. Problem solved, and I don't think that will void the warranty.

It may not be as simple as a badge change; we may not know what else they are going to screw around with. I'm not sure I trust Italian management or engineering. Their design abilities on the other hand are admirable.
