Hi

Looking at the speaker hoods there is a external clip and they are rusting and causing alot of rust specs on the paint. Does anyone else have this problem. It is on side of the hood speaker closest to the windsheild.

I was thinking of removing them and claybaring the paint where the hood speaker covers and painting the hood speakers because they have faded.

It sounds like you have the right idea. Remove rusty part and refinish. I have one that the rubber weather stripping has dislodged, but have not seen the rust problem. You'll likely need to get new hood liner clips - available at many auto parts stores - if you have a hood liner, and if it is in the way of the removal of the grill.

i did this last year.

when you go to paint your speakers grills, lightly "mist" them with spray paint and they will look great. if you try to put a "coat" on them, the little holes will get clogged up.

removing the screws is tricky, and putting them back in is trickier. take your time. when you undo the screws, lower the screws out of the holes slowly, and you wont drop them. to put the screws back in, here is what i did:

take a small piece of black electrical tape about 1/2" long. with the STICKY SIDE UP, poke the screw through the tape. insert your screw driver into the screw head. now fold the tape back, so it sticks on the screw driver shaft. (now you wont drop the screw!) insert the screw into the grill clips, tighten, and pull out the screw driver. the little piece of tape gets left there, and is barely seen because it is black.

good luck!
