Speedometer question

I have a problem with my speedometer after having an aftermarket transmission put in by a tuner who at this time must remain nameless until after I am finished with my lawsuit. Anyway, the original harness that has the reverse lockout, skip-shift, backup lights and speed sensor was modified and had some diodes added in to facilitate the backup lights with the aftermarket transmission. Anyway, the diode got fried and then my speedometer did not work at all except for the odometer would click off 5 or 6 tenths of a mile after being driven 8-10 miles when the car was cool and being driven very easy. I had someone check all the wires in both directions which all seem to be functioning properly. I replaced the harness with a new one and found that the odometer now works in the marginal capacity which I described above for longer and sometimes the speedometer will work just fine for 5 miles or more at a time on the highway (cruising in 6th gear has the highest occurence of the speedo kicking on) Also accelerating or decelerating on uneven surfaces will cause the speedo to kick on for a split second. Does anybody here have any suggestions? Paolo

What year car do you have? If you have a 2000 I can check the wiring diagram for you against what they did.

If you do have a 2000, I will need a DETAILED description of what they did (which wires, which direction the diode was placed, type of diode, etc...).

If some other year, I'm sure someone else with your year and a repair manual can help you figure out what happened. At any rate, it sounds like something got fried. (Unfortunately, I believe the speedometer is fed by the computer, which, in turn is fed from the sensor at the transmission. So it's either the CPU or the sensor, and I don't think it's the sensor.)

Paolo,

why doesn't the tuner correct his own work??????
Having a speedo that doesn't work right would be a major pain in the ***! Good thing you didn't get one of their super 7,651 rwhp supercharger packages!

Good Luck in sorting this out..
