I just picked up the April issue of Road & Track that has the SRT-10 and the Competition Coupe on the cover. It is a very nice article highlighting the differences between the two. The only thing I think is funny is that they are comparing the SRT-10's 0-60 time of 4.1 seconds, 1/4 mile 12.2 @119.6 to an ACR doing 4.4 0-60, and 12.6 1/4 mile @ 114.4. I know the SRT is slightly quicker, but I remember 1996 and 1997 GTS's doing 4.0-4.1 0-60 and 12.1-12.2 1/4 mile times @ around 118-119 MPH. Do they just do this to artificially inflate the progress performance wise of the SRT? I do not think this is necessary as people are finding that the SRT is a much better handling and stopping car over previous iterations. The power is definitely higher but there is not the gap they are insinuating... I have to say that the Competition coupe pulling 1.15 G's and 78.3 MPH in the slalom as well as being 6 seconds faster around the road course than the SRT is pretty impressive. This article has great pictures of the roll cage which extends from the cockpit into the engine compartment with the horizontal crossbrace right above the engine. Very, very impressive.

Just got my issue today. Some interesting numbers to consider.

Lap times around Chrysler's Chelsea Proving Grounds handling loop:
SRT-10: 1:10.83
Competition Coupe: 1:04.63

From C&D's 7/97 comparo between the Viper GTS, 993 Turbo S, and NSX-T (also taken place at Chelsea Proving Grounds handling course):
Viper GTS: 1:13.2
993 Turbo S: 1:15.8
NSX-T: 1:16.8

From C&D's 7/99 test of the [******] 650R (on Hoosier racing rubber, but with a passenger on board)
650R: 1:12.XX

Sure, the SRT-10 driver was Tommy Archer, but still.

Beautiful Photos, awesome article, BUT it looks like Dodge is heading out the drawing board soon with the anticipation of the new '05 Z06, with 500 hp.

FYI: Straight out of this weeks AUTOWEEK (See Bitter GT article):

(In reference to Holden/Pontiac GTO)

"There's also brave talk of getting the 6.0 litre 440 horsepower engine for the C6 Corvette...."

...so looks like the C6 will STILL be of lesser horsepower than our GEN 2's (and of course, our SRT's)
