Optima Red Top was the first change I made to my 1998 as well. Getting a jump in a public parking lot wasn't a great experience. Since I put the Optima in 2 years ago, I haven't even thought about the battery. Deltran Tender keeps it at 100% when it's in the garage.

Tight fit, but no problems.

If you have a local store called Batteries Plus check with them - we have had them sell them to us for $99, and then $105 - just tell them that their $125 price is too high - they seem to be flexible.. No shipping - although you do have to pay local sales tax... They'll also take your old battery.... Optima Red Top...

Battery FYI: In my opinion, the OEM MoPar (I-state?) is a cheapie for sure. And some years are ******* batteries.

There was an older TSB on battery leaks, and in G1 cars a rubber 'diaper' of sorts was the fix.

Does your wife autocross?!? Dive aggressively into parking spots?

Batteries that stay hooked up to manual charges or semi-automatic chargers too long can simmer. This bubbles out the electolyte-acid. The acid then eats away for months. A little leak makes a huge mess. Out-Of-Sight......

When car is running, the battery actually has a tempsensor under the tray to sense overcharging!

Deltran Battery Tender is a fully-automatic floating charger that will NOT cook/boil the battery.

Thanks for the info Steve340. I'll replace mine with Optima soon.

At what point do you need a battery tender? If the car will sit more than 2 weeks, more than 1 month, etc.?
