I am getting ready to move to Chicago and would like to take my Viper with me. However, my house won't be ready for at least a year (ie. no garage). Has anyone used Storage USA etc to store their Vipers? Would 10x15 work?? Do i need climate control??

Thanks!

Did a similar thing about 25 yrs. ago...had 12 cars, small apt...house hunting all the time. I mostly used the 32ft. units, and kept 2 cars in them, but, had a few singles that were 20ft. long. Climate control was not an option. About once a month, I would gather up my Wife and bro-in-law and transfer all the cars to the apt...work on them, and then drive them back...taking care NOT to be observed while placing car in a specific unit (and, if observed, moving it later to a spare unit, which would leave a would-be-thief with an empty). Another friend had 20 cars at same location...neither of us had any problems. Was VERY RELIEVED to get into house, and bring most under one roof(Porsches and Jags are MUCH smaller than Vipers are !!!).

Is the 15ft. length an INSIDE measurment?...I found the lengths to be overstated, causing me to move to 20ft.

The ILL. Club is a great bunch...you just MIGHT pick up an offer to store it for you as others read this post.

Good luck.

12 Cars! Good gawd! I think it's a bit waste of money since the car will be in storage most of the winter but I can't bare to think I can't drive my car for a year if it stayed at my old house back in KS... Hope to meet up with you one of these days!

I kept the Viper in a StorageUSA place when we moved back from Italy. Six months it stayed there, with me visiting every weekend. :( Until my wife moved back to join us in RI, I had no garage. If you can get climate controlled....go for it. I did not. The car did fine....but more importantly....I would have been better off!! LOL!! You'll need power for a battery tender. I did not have ppower....new battery time (sometimes I could not make it up EVERY weekend). I think it was a 10x15....maybe 10x20. I know that I put the car on the Sloan Kwikload and backed the whole rig in (now THAT took about 2 hours to get it in just right!!!). Had to take the fenders off the trailer and it just barely fit through the door. Once in it was good!

If you are willing to drive it to Madison this fall I would be more than happy to store it my climate comtrolled shop. I have the room. I would probably want $600 for the winter. Just a suggestion. :D

I put mine away, or at least stop driving it in early Nov. and take it out when all of the salt is off of the roads which is after a good rain, usually in April.

I had mine stored in Public Storage last winter. They were great and I had NO complaints. This year I think the car will stay at my house though. Public Storage was just a 4 mile drive away and sometimes I REALLY missed the car.

Store it in IEATVETS garage.Climate controlled, electric and should be safe.Self storage units **** **** ****.Don't forget even tho your car is a snake it does not like MICE.Ask others what they can do to a car in short time.I am not saying all places are dirty but i do know food brokers store new food items in them.(candy, dog food, vending machine items)Also if you want to get really freaked think of all the roaches bugs thruout the storage area that are brought in by people moving.(from food boxes they will nest in coragated cardboard)And on a brighter note you will have someone to bs with this winter while you detail your car. While its snowing.Just my .02 :D

Price seems very reasonable. I guess I need to figure out how far my new residence will be to Madison. I am thinking about living in Schamburg IL

Chicago is less that 2 hours from Madison. Let me know soon I have somebody else who is looking for storage for the winter but said I would let him know by next week. And by the way, I keep the heat at about 65 in the winter and if you ever wanted to work on it some weekend all you would have to do is call. I am there about everyday as it is doing something to my snake. Let me know soon. :D
