Hi Everyone,

Your input would be appreciated on the following 1992 to 2002 Viper Supercharger subjects.

1. If you're interested in getting a supercharger for your Viper, how important is the issue of legal emissions certification for you / influence your purchasing decision (specifically, if it passes the sniff test, must it also have the emissions compliant label)? Very important or not very important?

2. If traction control was an integrated option that you could purchase for $900, would you purchase it? Yes or no?

3. Would you prefer a polished or red powder coated intake manifold and blower?

4. What year is the Viper you'd be interested in supercharging?

These are issues being decided on in the near future and your E-Mail response would be appreciated.

Sean

1. Not that important, as long as CO stays below 1.5 at tickover

2. Not worried about traction control.

3. Would prefer intake to look original colour..Red wrinkle finish and blower polished or even left 'dull' alloy

4. 99 GTS UK spec...only 2 O2 sensors.

1. Smog passing is important to me. I'm in california. However certification is not as important as sniff test. But cert. would be nice.
2. Not sure on traction control. if it helps in the dry at all, I would be interested. If its is a benefit towards controling the extra power, defintely
3. Definitely polished. There's enough red already.

Sean, I am really eager for the affordable and reliable SC solution. Let me know when it's ready!

Traction control, active handling even ABS are shunned by Viper “Purist” as features that lessen the need for driver skill and put it in the hands of technology.

1. Not important but nice if it passes, can't see why it would not pass. It would be a plus if it can pass the sniff test so if someone sells a supercharged car it will be easier to sell.

2. Depends on the amout of boost and rwhp the car makes, most likely no if less than 600 rwhp. Just guessing but does your traction control somehow lower the boost when the tires are spinning?

3. The problem with powder coating the intake and supercharger is they will not exactly match the color of the valve covers and it may look odd. If not powder coated then I would prefer satin finish rather than a high gloss polished finish.

1) Probably doesn't matter.

2)You've got to be kidding! Leave traction control out for me! I'd buy another Vette if I wanted that!

3)Polished!

Traction control for under 1000 would be a great investment for many owners i think. I think supercharging the gts would be the best, tho u cnat leave gen 1 guys out. its all about making an affordable one, something sub 10k. Just my opinion

Mako,

Basic traction control is pretty easy to implement. All you need to know is "are the back tires spinning faster than the fronts?". If the answer is yes, you cut power usually though spark timing (or breaking the ankle of the driver through a massive pedal rebound like my C4 Vette!

).

The answer to "are the back tires spinning faster than the front" is probably determined from the ABS sensors, or aftermarket wheel sensors. The module that cuts spark timing is not too difficult to implement on a simple car like a Viper.

Of course, I make it sound easy... there's a bunch of engineering that goes into figuring all this stuff out - so I don't mean to belittle Sean's accomplishment in any way! I coulnd't have done it!

1. I'm registered in California so passing smog matters. (if it means I can't get SC then I could find another state to register in)

2. NO

1. Since I live in Cali, it is important that it has an Cali EO number.
2. Not interested in traction control, especially since it will tack on almost another grand. (Keep it below the original projected $7K)
3. Doesn't matter

Unless the blower is invisible I'd want the Certification.
Prefer stock color.
Switchable traction control nice option.

Emissions matter to me, traction control doesn't, polished is nice to offset the red but it wouldn't stop me, and 98 is the year.

Sean, hope all goes well with the meetings. Can you estimate when you think they will be ready? Taking down payments? Thanks for all of the info in our emails.....

1. Emissions Certification - critical, as I live in a state which checks it. It must pass a "sniff test" only, otherwise I would not purchase it.

2. Traction control for $900? Yes, and I would pay $4+K for an ABS/TC retrofit.

3. Polished

1. Calif. smog approval necessary. CARB certificate would be nice.
2. Traction control would be nice it you could turn it off when you want to have some fun

3. Polished or satin metal. Too much red on my car already.
4. 01 GTS. BTW I thought you couldn't supercharge creampuffs because of the cast pistons?
