That \"celebrity\" thing...

So today was "bring your car to work day" (okay, that is every day) and I took the GTS. Stopped by Amoco on the way home to fuel up ($1.51 per gallon for premium, in case anybody is curious). As I am finishing up, I hear "Oh my God, THAT'S HIM!!" I look up to see a black Tahoe screaching to a stop in the street where the Amoco sits. They reverse (in traffic) and pull in. A rather attractive blonde leans out the window and says, "Hi! Do you remember me? I was the one that you let watch your car at the drag strip!"

Sure enough, when I had gone out there last year with Matthew with his cat-killing GTS (80 mph and kitty go *BOOM*), this same young lady was fawning over my car. I offered to let her sit in it and she vowed she would never get out. I told her to keep an eye on it while I went and chatted with Matthew. Twenty minutes later I came back and she was still sitting in the driver's seat with a grin that wouldn't stop. Oh yeah, and she was a good candidate for that Extreme Bikini thing.

Did I remember her? You betcha.

Today she was bummed that she didn't have a camera (again) and I remembered one of the most valuable lessons I have ever learned on this board: Buy a Polaroid camera and keep it in the car. It is great for treating the kids to a "souvenir" when they walk up to the car with such eagerness. Pop them in the driver's seat, snap the photo, and the kid has a story he will be telling for a while and the picture to prove it. Just think, that could be in somebody's scrapbook 30 years from now! I digress (as usual). I remembered the Polaroid and offered to shoot a couple pictures for her. I told her I would like one to show Matthew when I told him the story of how she "found" me again. Matthew, here you go:

Yeah I know, not the greatest picture but what can you do. If I had only kept the digital camera in there instead... And yes, the car was dusty from sitting in the parking lot today. I cleaned it up when I got home, of course. What a GREAT car!

As always, the babes lined up for your car, dogs and cats for my car. By-the-way cat fur or Zaino, which do you prefer? Here Kitty Kitty. Maybe this should have been posted in the kill section.

Chris....... my man......... Momma always told me that if ya don't have anything GOOD to say about someone, then don't say ANYTHING! However, this situation is just SOOOOOOO terrible that I CAN'T let it pass without comment.

Since you first blessed this board with your presence, we have been treated to what I would consider the BEST portfolio of creative and artistic Viper photography from ANY member EVER (due respect to you also, Pierce). Colors, reflections, lighting, composition........ it's all been simply stunning.

But NOW, when all the chips were on the table, and you finally had the chance to make a really SIGNIFICANT contribution to your fellow members, ................. YOU GAGGED IT BIG TIME!!!!!!!

Out of focus, overexposed, the shadow line cutting right through the middle of her face ............ man....... WHAT WERE YA THINKIN!!!!!!!!?????????? I'm just, just, just....... STUNNED! Mighty Casey has struck out!....... with the bat on his shoulders!!!! He TOOK the pitch!!!!!!

I figure you got maybe ONE chance to redeem yourself. You could also do a really nice thing for Brunton. Locate and call that sweet young lady, and then shoot a FULL portfolio for us that would make Pierce proud of you. Just think about it. Is THIS the way you want history to remember your body of work? Personally, I don't think you have a choice! No pressure though buddy!

Re: That \"celebrity\" thing...

Yes, I did indeed hit a blooper on this one when a homer was called for. Three factors:

1. Her friend (male) was standing over my shoulder.

2. The camera was indeed a Polaroid. Number of possible settings? One. Push the button and pray.

3. Being roughly twice her age, it was a fine line between admiration and **********.

There were a few other photo opportunities such as when she was leaning in to admire the details of the engine, however at that point I was trying to divert myself by thinking of funerals. I think that a midlife crisis may be on the horizon. At least I am still "in my 30's" for a few more months. Of course, with my digital camera I can operate in "stealth mode" and shoot candid shots with nobody the wiser (and decisively cross that fine line mentioned in #3 above). With the Pinto equivalent of a camera in hand, it was about as stealth as a dump truck in a nitroglycerin plant (thank you, Uncle Lewis), especially as the flash goes off everytime.

The good news is that I DID tell her about our Dyno Day next weekend (April 21st from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM, in case anybody else wants to join us). Hopefully she will show up. And yes, I will have the digital camera with fresh batteries! Now I am headed to send off our club on a Viper cruise. I will get some good pictures I'm sure, but as we are all old farts except for Mr. Williams, I might as well post pictures of bingo night at the retirement home...

Chris, I remember your original thread about this babe, where you went on and on, yet didn't even have ONE pic to post, so I guess this would be considered a vast improvement (However still considered strike two)

If you want to avoid the embarrassment of the long walk back to the dugout, you better be prepared at the Dyno Day!
