THE LAST 2002 VIPER GTS IS UP FOR AUCTION TUESDAY, MAY 7!

ALERT! What has been a low-key promotion may have eluded the Viper world — but it’s not too late to take advantage of a truly great opportunity to own the last 2002 Viper GTS off the production line.

DaimlerChrysler has contributed this Final Edition GTS Coupe (Red with dual stone and white stripes) for auction at Northwood University’s annual International Scholarship Showcase. The Showcase helps to fund qualified, enthusiastic students who wish to pursue and complete their education.

The event takes place on Tuesday, May 7, at the Marriott of Centerpoint, located at the corner of Opdyke and Square Lake Roads near Bloomfield Hills, Mich. A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., with dinner and dancing to follow. The auction takes place after dinner, with a projected maximum of 240 people having an opportunity to place a winning bid.

Many automotive dignitaries attend this black tie affair. Tables of 10 are available at $1500; individual seating is $150 per person.

Who is to say how much this unique Viper will go for? With so few people present, someone might just walk off with a super buy.

Whether for investment or driving excitement, you still have time to be there and place a bid. Because of the short time frame, call Viper Headquarters (800) 998-1110 for confirmation and tickets no later than 5 p.m. EST, Friday, May 3, 2002. Have your credit card ready. Or complete the online registration form at www.viperclub.org/vca/last02.doc But you must act now!

Will the car actually be there at the auction or will the winner get the car later when all have been built? It seems that if they are just now starting to build the Final Edition cars the last one won't be done for some time. It also seems to me that in order to get the highest possible price the potential owner(s) would need to see the car in person before placing a bid.
Just some thoughts (I'm not going anyway)

I will say it again, IMO the car should not be auctioned!!!
Some rich person will have it; NOT necessary some one who loves the cars!! It should be raffled that way, in general it goes to someone who wants (loves) these cars.

Don't get me wrong there "might" be a viper enthusiast there who has the cash for the car. But the odds are against that.

Hope the college reconsiders and goes with the raffle idea.

Shouldn't it be "dual stone white stripes" not "dual stone and white stripes"???? The white color on the 96/97 GTS's is called Stone White. I am assuming they are using the same color....

Latest info I had was that it was a bidding war between 2 dealers... Kinda makes you wonder what they think they can sell it for.... Yowza!

i would have paid that much for it (if i had the funds)... think about it, its the LAST gen II viper gts to come off the assembly line EVER.. talk about collectable.. i would have built a shrine for it in my living room..

what a shame that it either fell into the hands of a non viper enthusiast, or a money grubbing all mighty dollar seeing dealer (chuck tator, bill p, and bob w not included).. dodge *****!!!

DODGE doesn't ****. They generously donated the car to benefit a SCHOOL that raised LOTS OF MONEY. Everyone was able to bid on this - I know some were bidding by phone with representatives there. The dealer bought this fair and square. Anyone could have made the effort to outbid him.

Truly a generous gesture on Dodge's part! For those that obviously don't know the whole story... Dodge DONATED the car (read: FREE) for this charitable cause!

Congratulations!

.... now, I wonder who will get the "next to the last GTS"?

Well think about it like this....

Your a dealer... you deal in cars for a living... you buy
the last GTS Viper made... you pay out the nose for it...
you put it on your showroom floor... you tell your accountant
that its an advertisment for the dealership... the IRS says
sure you can right it off as a business expense...

You walk away from the auction saying to yourself... I can't
believe I got the one and only " last GTS " and its all written
off for a freeby

I see at least two very smart dealers :)

They could have paid $250,000 and got a bargin :-(
