I know someone whom owns a Corvette and now wants a Viper. He said that on his way to work one morning he decided to count Corvettes. I guess much like Cow Pasture Pool.

He counted 13 of them, and said that's it, I want a Viper.

Who wants a car you see 13 in one hour and costs as much as a Viper.

I guess the person who wants the car that costs as much as a Viper and has equal or better performance. I think it's sad that we now have to resort to the "my car is rarer than yours" routine to save face. I don't think it is as bad with GEN I and GEN II's since they are far more visually attractive than any C6 Vette. But when it comes to the GEN III's, both cars are about equal in terms of visual appeal. Less performance, equal looks, and $10k more in cost does not equate into a promising future for our beloved Viper. :(

In most of my daily driving I will only see a Viper every 6 to 12 months or less out on the road. Who wants a car you see 13 in one hour and costs as much as a Viper.

viper and vettes are 2 totally different cars

btw-you can get a decent C5 for $25K, they aren't anywhere near the same price range

JeeeeeeeZZ, you have issues, nothing like making him feel welcome.

What is wrong with him wanting to sell his Corvette to get a Viper? And what is wrong with him wanting the Viper because it is not so common as HIS Vette?

We are almost all former Corvette owners. Interestingly enough a whole bunch of us are STILL Corvette owners. It's all good. And as one of the above I will concur that the Viper does confer that "Rock Star" attention grabbing appeal over the Vette due to it's rarity and in your face styling. And compared to a C5/C6 a Gen III will still pull the crowd. Now bring out a perfectly restored C2 or C3 and the odds even up again.

I never owned a Vette, but will someday. However it will be a 66 or 67 big block.

Mid-years with big blocks sell for more than a new SRT coupe - yet a stock C5 owns them in every performance category.

Nice show cars - not much go!

Most new performance cars outperform the 60s. 40 years of technology advances. I am not looking to race it. I just love the 427 and the looks!

Vettes are cool, but Vipers offer exclusivity.

The way I see it is that they make 2-4 times as many Vettes in a single year as they've made total Vipers since 1992. Hmm...which one will be more collectible down the road? I agree it's uncommon to see a Viper on the road (I've gone months and not seen a single Viper on the road), yet everyday you see tons of Vettes....doesn't mean their not cool.

Vettes are cool, Mustangs are cool too, but Vipers are legendary :usa:

the only corvette i've ever liked were the Stingrays. but these new C6's are pretty nifty looking. although owning a viper or a corvette or even both would leave me happy. :D

A lot of it is brand loyalty. I personally don't care how much faster (if any) the new vette is, it'll never pry me away from my Viper. There is nothing but Mopar in my family, and I cannot imagine driving anything else.

I also have owned five Vettes and enjoyed them. My favorite was a 65 327/365hp with both tops and old style American Mags. (this dates me) It was white with a red interior, very common back then. I don't know if you guys remember the layout of the dash. It had two arches coming up from the center console. One to the left with Speedometer and Gauges, and the right with the glove box. The glove box had a heavy spring in it so when you pressed the button to open it, the door would come toward you. Then there was a steel cable to stop it horizontal. It was about the height of someones knees who might be sitting in the passenger seat.

Sometimes when I would wind first gear out and ****** 2nd, the spring loaded glove box door would fly open and stop at the passenger's knees. (ouch)

If I didn't have the bucks for the Viper, a supercharged Vette would be my pick.

Regards,
Alan

Here is a link to a video of a Vette and a Viper racing my friend who owns a Vette sent me. This is one fast Vette and one of the best sounding ones I have ever heard. Watch the Covette's speedo climb like a tachometer. www.illicitintentions.com/Vette&Viper.wmv (I hope this isn't old as the hills on Viper Club)(does anyone know who owns the Viper)

I drive to work in Boca Raton and see 13 Porsches on the way there and its only a 15 minute drive, and I'm not joking. I have owned 3 Porsches and almost bought the new 997 last August until someone turned me on to a VIPER. And one of the most powerful sales emotion is exclusivity. I wanted something that few people had.... but I also wanted to buy American. Vettes are nice cars but way too common when compared to a Viper. I could go the entire year in South Florida and not see another VIPER on the road... so exclusivity is a legitimate factor. The "rock star" quality is something I really didn't know about or experience until after I owned the car so it didn't slip into my consciousness when making the purchase. For me it was buying a "rare" American muscle car and joining an exclusive club. What pushed me over the edge to buy the car once I was looking at it was an article in USA Today which ranked cars by the emotional attachment of the owner, and VIPER was ranked #1. That says a lot about the car and the people that drive them. It was defintely the right decision for me.

I still have my '93 Vette. Unfortunately, back in '93 I couldn't afford a Viper. As for my '02 GTS, I don't ever plan on selling it.
