The OEM t-stat is the best designed Viper t-stat I've seen and even they can get stuck.

The Stanton t-stats for Vipers I have seen are not nearly as well built at the OEM units. In fact, I've seen them get stuck in the closed position and the car overheats w-in minutes. On removal, the mechanism is wedged a just a bit sideways and prevents movement. They may have changed the design, but I have not seen it.

The caterpillar t-stat has been used and appears to be better made than the stanton.

BUT- The pics of the Mopar Performance t-stat that Jon B. mentioned appear to have the same stout design as the oem one.

if you replace the t-stat it's good to use lithium (water pump) grease to prevent t-stat depression and you can also drill 2, small and opposing holes in the outer jacket to help pass trapped air.

PartsRack carries the heavily-advertised MoPar Performance 180-degree T-stat vor Viper, complete w/ gasket kit. I am sure it is 2X the price of a Stant, but at least its is Mopar and everything fits.

That said, a lot of folks change this and get NO noticable benefit. If your Viper is running hot, a 180-T may just be a placebo. If not, then why fix it? And a lot of work for little-no-gain. Did you burp it thoruoughly?

The Gen-1 at the rear of the motor is not easy, but it is easier than Gen II !
