This is one reason why the VIN Registry is so important.

The viper community is lucky to have a group of people gathering VIN information on our snakes. I saw an ad in AutoWeek a few weeks back and finally got around to doing the research.... well, I was very disappointed. Go visit: http://www.maxcar.net and you'll see what I mean.... go to the car list and look at the '96 black with a "Good Title, light damage". The car is so bent is popped the drivers side door skin off, the front end has been moved at least a six inches to the right.... but when rebuilt, it's title will say nothing. But at least the Viper's VIN registry will have the pics off this MaxCar tied to a VIN.

We have a "wrecks" volunteer for the registry..... hopefully by having the facts, we'll be able to prevent a lot of problems in the future. The real issue will not likely be the person that fixes and sells the car, the real problem will be two or three owners down the line when a person that really did not know the car was wrecked sells it to someone that figures it out....

If that car is worth $29,500. My '94 should be worth about $90,000!

That's a shame, someone could get stuck with that car and never know. I thought that was the whole idea behind "salvage/ reconstructed titles?

It would be "PARTED OUT" have you bought parts from Dodge lately?

Dodge wants $108 bucks for the lombar pump for the seats. Mine dry rotted and needed replacing. I went to a medical supply store and for $17 bucks and some black tie wraps I replaced both.

Thanks to my gf who had the bright idea. Who says blondes are dumb?

This wreck is a '96 (RT/10), it is rebuildable, but as noted, it is priced to high to rebuild. Tops, it would be a 32-34K car once rebuilt... If the rebuilder tells the truth when they sell it... It would be a great car to part out (The high price of Viper parts are what is determining the "floor" price for used Vipers), the "clean title" sets it up for fraud, sadly, that is likely the route it will take. Five years form now somebody will be very unhappy, like the young man that commented on the Green Viper. It does have some nice pieces, even the same style Autoform spoiler and Mopar hardtop that will be on my car.

I figured that I'd start putting up "status" Avatars soon, my conglomeration special is scheduled for completion in July.
It was originally to be done in June, but got slowed down a little by the special paint job Janni is having put on her car. Since Janni needs her car for racing, and I'm (obviously) in no hurry, she will get her stars and stripes a little before I get the conglomeration special.... no biggie. Last I talked to Ed/Janni, it looked like her car would be out at the end of this month. Ed is working on my hood right now. He will be adding a NACA duct, installing two oval louvered inserts (from a Jag XK-R) in the locations that the square louvers are in a GTS, and repairing craze cracking. This hood will be the most work of the body panels.

Although it will likely be attended mostly by our local club members, all will be welcome to a "Welcome Home" party for my Viper held late July/early August in Sparkman Arkansas.

I know what you mean about cars (Vipers especially) that are totaled but still have clean titles.

A friend of mine just built a Red 2001 GTS that was totaled (major frame damage), but still has a clean title. It even shows up clean on a carfax (one reason I don't hold much faith in carfax). More than likely he won't tell anyone when he goes to sell it that it was wrecked (We'll see).

Another friend is looking at a Steel Gray 2000 RT/10 that looks like it was wrapped around a large tree or a large bridge column.
It still has a clean title (the car is supposed to be from TX).

The thing that really annoys me is that they act like a rebuilt wreck is worth the same amount a one that has never been wrecked.

I don't have any problem with someone building a wreck to be into a car a little cheaper, just don't deny that it's been wrecked when you choose to sell it. It does affect what the car is worth! It's worth less!

Well everyone I'll tone in hear again. Please let me know of any wrecks you come across. I am now working on a complete RT directory which now lists over 100 clean cars and 25 demolished (not including the ones without VIN which I can do nothing about) in order of VIN#. I know of at least 50 cars still floating on the market that have been in an accident and can very easily be rebuilt and washed. I'm going to do what I can to keep people on this site informed if they ask me.

As for Maxline I have contacted the company many months ago about these two cars. The salesman was very pleasant and I got the impression that the price might not stick under pressure. He did not want to give me the VINs for some odd reason but assures me that there is no frame damaged to the black vehicle. These cars have been advertised for over 3 months now with no change to the website so they may not be on lot anymore.

Nope, Maxline's is listed at 30k miles and Barbera's is just a hair over 13k. I haven't found any probelms with any of Barberas Vipers so PLEASE be careful about knocking the dealership. I realize that wasn't your intention, but others might not.
