I pulled out from home last night to go to work and got on it fairly hard. I could not identify the side, but a fairly loud sound began not unlike the sound a playing card would make in the spokes of a bicycle. It would get faster when I sped up, and slower when I slowed down. I made a left into a parking lot and looked around but found nothing. When I started off again to go on to work the sound was gone. This morning on my way home from work I was coming to a light and hit the binders. A fairly loud noise like a steel band snapping was heard and felt by SOTP. It seemed to come from drivers rear. Braking was unaaffected and the remainder of the drive was uneventful. I drove in to work tonight with nothing odd occuring. What was up?

What Viperfreak2 said makes sense.

Though it is NOT likely on an 04, check to be sure that the parking brake cables are not hitting the wheel weights as Janni reported on early 03's.

Next, take a peak at the ABS cables and speed sensor wheels front and back.

Will you be at Putnam this weekend?

Like they said, I'll bet it was something (plastic bag?) trapped for a while under the car but above the belly plate that only flickered at a certain speed and finally cut loose.
Then again, maybe not.

Keep us posted. I had a similiar sound at the end of an 1/8 mile run, thought I killed her. Not very loud but noticable.

Never heard it again.

The Gen II's I had both had a clunk from the differential area, but went away with a retorque. I haven't heard about anyone saying the SRT does this. The 'playing card' sound is unusual.

I have a very noticeable clunk in my diff. The car has 800 miles on it. I havent taken it to the dealer to see what their comments will be.

I meant the single clunk when accelerating hard in the early cars. The 'driveline play' clunking is definitly there on the SRT. It clunks EVERY time I change the throttle unless I'm very smooth. Dealer says this is normal. BS

I was thinking I might have had a piece of gravel fouling a brake pad and it came loose when I stopped. I have driven the car three days since then and noticed nothing. Who knows. I will be at Putnam, but will have the GTS.

Some folks who have the "Porsche Brake Ducts" or similiar, installed, have noted this noise if/when the ducts become misaligned. One acencdote found that the duct was just barely touching a wheel-weight.... after an off-course excursion 'religned' the duct.
